HEAT AND HOME FIELD

Its going to be hot. One would think depth would favor Iowa? What's the home court advantage? 7 points?
Still one has to be really concerned with this game. The QB had over 300 yards of offense against us as a freshman at Indiana and the RB ran for something like 2200 yards last year. They are going to score some points. Anything close to the offensive performance we had against a bad Iowa State team and we are going to be in big trouble even with the heat and home field.

They are retooling their offensive line and have only one returning receiver with any significant experience and he sat out all of last year with an injury. It will be interesting as our defense should be stronger than their offense, IF we can keep them off the edge. Their defense lost a number of players but they do have some experience coming back; with question marks on our offensive line it could be a standoff. If the tackles can keep their defensive ends out of the backfield we could have a good offensive day.

You would hope that depth does favor the Hawkeyes and they'll be able to wear down Ill St. I don't see playing in Kinnick as much of an advantage for Iowa. They lose quite a bit there.

I don't think the heat will affect the players to much seeing how they have been practicing in it. Haven't seen the weather for game day, how hot is suppose to be?

HOT...........yes, I think the heat could be a factor, because neither team has
practiced a lot in heat, as it hasn't been that hot, until this week.

Since moving our practices to the morning, I think heat could become an issue to us over the course of the season. Hard to get exposure to playing in it when your not practicing in it.

Over the course of the season it's only going to get cooler and cooler. Heat may only be an issue for this one game.

The one bottle of water limit has just been lifted for Saturday. Everyone drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.

Heat and home field didn't do anything to the Fighting Huskies of Northern Illinois......If I knew they would have choked away that game I would have stayed home in the A/C.

The big bodies on both sides of the line should punish the FCS school in the second half....Hopefully the conserative gameplan doesn't allow the back door loss to another team that has less talent than the hawks.

I has had cramping issues in past early in year with some players...I'm sure they are focusing on adequate hydrating...it will be hot for both teams. If Iowa can control the LOS, that is where they can exact some advantage

It will be in the mid 80's for most of the game. 11-2:30. High in low 90's probably won't hit until 4pm. Humidity will probably be pretty high.

So when they were doing two a day practices, you are saying they held both in the morning?

I have to agree with you, if its not been that hot during their fall practices it could be a problem. That's another reason I wish that we still had the natural grass field instead of the field turf. I played a flag football game at one of the local high schools and I couldn't believe how much hotter the field turf gets compared to natural grass. Then total in that our boys will be wearing their home black tops. Hopefully the staff is really pushing hydration this week.
