NOVEMBER 7TH, 1981: IOWA 33, Purdue 7. Yes, it was a one-sided game, to be sure. And Iowa supposedly had just exited the national radar by losing two straight going into this game after the mega-stunning win at Michigan three weeks before. This game is on the list for two reasons. First, this was a team they had lost 20 straight games to – 20. Remember, the ISU winning streak in the Fry era was “only” 15. And considering Purdue, in those 20 years, had only been to the Rose Bowl once, it was way past long overdue. But the other reason is that while this game and score was barely noticed by most, it was THE game that turned around our season and eventually got us to Fry's Rose Bowl.
