Hayden Fry to USC?

So I was watching channel 9's old tribute to Hayden from when he retired and there was a spot about USC trying to get Fry in the Mid 80's. I was about 7 at the time so anyone have any info on this situation and how it played out?

I don't want to ruin the ending for you, but he stayed at Iowa.

One aspect to come out of it was Fry being able to leverage the USC offer into getting Iowa to build an indoor practice facility.

Yeah they went with Larry Smith. Ironically Smith son, Kolby, transfered from USC to play at Iowa and played like 2 minutes before getting killed like the 38 other QBs in 1994.
