I heard a story that Bill Brashier advised Haydon to take the Iowa job. He saw how Iowa had 50k+ fans at their games and said if they draw that well when they losw, just imagine if they would start winning.

Nice story, no idea if it is true, but it sounds better than Iowa offered more money.
