I saw him eulogize Bob Elliott at his funeral. I was ready to play football for him right then, what an awesome speaker and motivator.

re: McCarney. I bumped into him twice yesterday around Fry Fest activities and at a nearby pub during Happy Hour. The guy has endless energy.

He is the only coach to bring respectability to Iowa State since Earle Bruce roamed the sidelines in the 1970's.

Do understand however, that his peak years coincided with the end of the Fry era and beginning of the Ferentz era, a crucial factor in his success there.

Can anyone remember the circumstances regarding his departure? I know he wasn't a saint in his personal life and his tenure at Ames almost ended before it began due to a spousal issue.

Jury is still out on Matt Campbell as well as how long he may stay there. This year should tell us a lot about Matt at ISU.
