Despite all the negative Nancies on here, Hawks will be playing next week and it wont be the NIT. Deserve it? No. Did MN deserve it last year? No. Striking similarities....two teams tanking at the wrong time.

What are you going to do with the bid boys? Most of us fans on here have been salivating for years on you getting back to the real deal. Once the bid is in, we don't want to hear about you peeing and moaning about other players, crying that you don't have Twitter, ticked at your coach, etc? We want you to perform your hearts out next week and try and get us a win! Now, get your crap together.

All the player interviews on video and written reports seem positive. I haven't heard sniping from players. Just rumors of sniping. Did a player actually publicly complain about anything with the Iowa program, coach, etc?
 
I know I wondered if there was some sort of problem within the team and like others posted that here. It just seems like there has to be something for a team with this much talent who has played well to all of a sudden suck eggs.

As far as any credible source..or even not so credible source..I am yet to see one.

The more I think about it, I think that perhaps this team just lacks leadership. Once we had a couple of bad losses the confidence went away and now when someone needs to step up they all look around until someone dribbles it off their foot.
 
This team lacks the physicality to compete in the Big Ten and against other quality teams. Iowa is a finesse team that needs to get to the line and score in transition. That have done very little of both recently. They get pushed around and I think intimidated easily.m

I hear everyone say we have 'talent' but where is it at? Honestly? Who has talent...has anyone showed you they have real talent other than maybe RDM? Who is so talented on our team??? Talented teams don't go 1-6 the last seven games when they need one to solidify a tourney bid. And they certainly don't lose to a team with a sub .500 record who they kicked in the face during the regular season, in their post season tourney. Talent against Maryland Eastern Shore is much different than talent in the BIG. Love my Hawks but wish we could be objective on this site.

Refresh me...did Wisconsin have a 5 game losing streak and also lose to the team Iowa did last night? Didn't OSU get swept by PSU this year?

It has been a strange year in college basketball this year.

My hope is that the NCAA Tournament will be called the way the new rules were intended to be called...less physical than B1G play. IF this happens then Iowa will look much better IMO.
 
Something is very wrong with this team. Jon gets criticized for mentioning the lack of chemistry, but that is definitely part of the problem. The teamwork and team support appear to be lacking. They seem to be wandering around in an advanced form of chaos on defense and there is a distinct lack of intelligent movement on offense. The opponent can always get an open shot and we have difficulty getting an open three most of the time. Our inside game is severely lacking, evidenced by 18 offensive rebounds and scarcely a basket from them in the NW loss. I can't believe how spread out our defense is at times, the middle is wide open, almost any one of the five opponents on the floor could simply drive uncontested to the basket too many times.....

There might be time to get back to the business of being a Team again. I have seen how good this team can be. When we are on, we can play with almost any team in Division One. The aspect of getting out of the Big Ten is laughed at, but there is definitely something to it. It is a very tough league, especially this year, evidenced by the extremely surprising upsets. Their are some of the best coaches in college basketball in the league. After three years, the Hawk system of transition basketball has been almost eliminated. The Big coaches watch the video, play the Hawks over and over and learn how to take our best aspects away. It will be a relief to get away from an exasperating year in the Big. I do believe we will be a different team in the Dance. There should be a vast amount of incentive in honor of Fran and Marge's son. That would certainly distract any one of us. I would be devastated and find it difficult to place it in the back of my mind at all.....

I think I see the problem here - just a misunderstanding of the language:

"We" doesn't include you - you probably have no talent. So just stop including yourself in the team, and things might seem better.

No, nothing like that. That was awful. Maybe you didn't see the game we were like 1-235 from the field, NW was raining 3s, players now hate each other, and Fran broke his foot. We don't want anything like that. You're silly.

Physical teams who try to rough up the Hawkeyes in The Dance will get a lot of fouls, playing into Iowa's hands. Generally, they call them close in the NCAA tourney.

Yes, they many times do. Having talent doesn't mean you are going to win. This team has proved that they can play very well. Teams with no talent don't play like we did at times earlier in the season including a blow out of a good team like Michigan.

Kentucky's talent last year helped them earn a solid NIT birth and go one and done. This year it's a familiar story.
