hawks playing bad but still barely losing, how good could they be?

They are not playing well, shooting very good, defensive and rebounding lapses yet still they are barely losing. And they have had the lead late in every game lately they have lost.

I have to ask you how good could this team really be if they hadnt lost the shooting mojo. That is all it is, period. with about 12 minutes to go last nite IU was shooting 60%, 67% from 3 pt range at 9 for 14, and the hawks were shooting 37%. The hawks were down by only 12 points and as you know came back to have a late lead.

But again they shot bad in the last few minutes.

Maybe they need to lighten up in practice and just do some shooting practice and give the legs a rest.

Only time will tell, the NCAA tournament is coming up and it's one and done so I will give my judgment after it's over. They can still salvage something from this season if they figure out how to fix everything that their doing wrong.Might not be enough time to fix it since they haven't done it yet.

I can't even imagine what's going on in their minds right now, timid, too aggressive, things are going from bad to worse.....gut check time, and they know it, but once again, close ball game, and it's the simple mistakes, rushing a shot, taking too early in the shot clock, taking yourself out of a play and leaving 3 pt shooter wide open, rebounding......that's a lot to absorb in a ball game....I really thought Iowa was going to pull this out....playing smart down the stretch, setting up some decent plays for points, or a chance at the line.....Indiana was having none of it.....total head scratcher...

NEIChawk: I agree with you, when we came down with the ball with about 1:25 left in the game and I was watching coach just standing there saying nothing and the players were just standing around not moving I thought why aren't they running a play.Very frustrating for us fans to watch.

Doesn't matter how well you play if you continue to **** your pants at the end of games.

Not true. If we play better and put the game away before the under 4 timeout it matters. :) When you either win by double digits or lose, you're odds of winning aren't good.

As much as you can point to stagnant offense, bad fefense, lack of rebounding, and coaching, we win every game after the first Indiana loss if Uthoff was still shooting even decent. We would have beat some good teams while playing not very good. That's why we can still win some games in the tourney. As bad as everything looks, all we need is for one guy to improve his outside shooting.

I agree with shooting being the culprit last night. However, three point shot misses are just that. Its frustrating if the whole team is off, instead of just one person not having a good night.

What I saw last night at the end of the game was Indiana driving right at the basket and making jumpers a few feet away while two or three of our boys standing flat footed or unable to reject or redirect the player and allowing a basket and avoiding a foul, I guess. At the other end, our fellas wouldn't drive right at the defender and tried to take an off balance shot near the basket and miss, and didn't give themselves the opportunity to draw a foul. It looked like Indiana thrived on this at the end of the game. Very frustrating.

They have not lost a single game this season by double digits and as originally stated even when they are not playing well they still are showing they are within striking distance. Indiana is a very good team.......super point guard, numerous offensive weapons, and lots of muscle around the basket. It's the trend for Iowa that is of concern. They haven't shown they can get some of these things corrected. They haven't defeated a BIG team that is currently sitting in the upper half of the standings since 11 games ago.........Purdue at home on 1/24. Even if we win at MI we will not have played .500 ball in the second half of the BIG season.

I agree. And I like that Williams seems to have moved into the rotation. And I think Baer, Wagner and Uhl are playing with energy again. Our bench was very good last night IMO. I hope Fran gives these 4 guys minutes at Michigan and in the Big 10 Tournament.
