Be a heck of a pipeline, but I doubt we are going to break into the De La Salle line.

Iowa goes after another QB from a national high school powerhouse.

From St. Thomas Aquinas to De La Salle.

At least the coaches aren't scared to put their noses in a few new places. You have to give them that.

Looks like a big kid with a big arm. Would be a good get, but getting top flight QB's with Rudock waiting in the wings will be difficult. Top guys usually don't want to sit for 3 or 4 years before they see the field.

This. The only top-flight QB I see us having any realistic chance with is Zeke Pike, and that's just because we got in on him early. But even then, I don't see it being very likely. I've very happy with what I've gotten to see from Rudock. He looks like a faster, taller Drew Tate who can play under center (that was Tate's biggest weakness, IMO). And honestly, with how Tate produced here, that should be a downright scary thought to any Big Ten fans who are paying attention.

At the traditional powerhouse programs you can get 2-3 Qbs and 5-6 Rbs of this caliber to hang around for 4 years but not at Iowa. This kid looks almost as good as Jake with a litle odd release but just not likely for Iowa to stack up 4* Qbs. Maybe some though.day

Everyone needs to relax about the Jake thing kid not on campus and is the starter. I think he has a shot of being good, but long long long way to go. As far as Iowa not getting other QB recruits because he's here its only a small factor. Most highly recruited kids are not afraid of competition any bigger school he picks there will be other QB's there. Its not like Jake is the best QB prospect in the world.

So how come the lineman going down into the 3-point stance just before the ball is snapped isn't a false start?

1) Don't think they put their hand on the ground prior, which allows for them to have movement.

2) They are set for at least a full second before the snap of the ball, so they are ok on that front.

There are numerous high schools that do this type of cadence (sp?). As stated below, they are set for a full second and it is a normal movement for that team.

You obviously go after the most talented players that fit your system / style, especially QB, but this looks like a pretty clear "message" to Derby. Staff playing a little chess game to "help guide" and expedite the position change decision?

I dont see it that way at all. You try to have at least one QB in each class. Sometimes you take two. Most of the time if you get a good one like Rudock, you aren't going to get a second.

Just from watching their highlight tapes, Jake Ruddock looks to my amateur eye to be a bit more polished and has better footwork than Houston, but that's less a knock on Houston than a compliment toward Ruddock. On the positive side, Houston looks like he has a super quick release (I love how the ball explodes off his hand). I can definitely see why Iowa offered.
