The Iowa men's basketball team beat Central Arkansas 105-64 on a rare Monday night affair in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
UCA is coached by former Arkansas and NBA player Corliss Williamson. Williamson, who earned $42.67 million dollars in his NBA career.
So at least he has that going for him.
Iowa scored 55 points in the first half, which was as many or more points as they scored in 39 of the 96 Todd Lickliter era games (40.6% of the contests).
OK, that's enough of the snark.
Devyn Marble scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures for the Hawks. Marble also had six assists to one turnover and made 9-10 from the line in just 23 minutes of action. Aaron White scored 17 off the bench for Iowa, with Melsahn Basabe getting 14 points and nine boards. Matt Gatens added 11 points and Eric May had 10. Gabe Olaseni scored eight points in nine late game minutes.
This game mostly resembled a Prime Time League affair, but it was entertaining and nobody got hurt.
Iowa made 42 of 76 field goals and 16 of 21 free throws. Iowa controlled the boards, grabbing 53 caroms to 38 for UCA. Both teams had 17 offensive rebounds, so if you want to find a statistic to nit pick on, there it is.
Iowa outscored UCA 64-24 in the paint, 35-11 in points off turnovers and 23-4 in fast break points. The Hawkeyes scored 43 points off the bench and never trailed.
Iowa dished out 32 assists on their 42 field goals, which is a great thing to see.
The Hawkeyes have one more non-conference game before the Big Ten slate begins, and that's Wednesday night at home against Boise State. The Broncos beat Drake earlier this year by 44 points but lost at Denver Saturday night by 17 points.
