Hawkeyes Pushing Through Pandemic Hoping for Season

With what we are seeing with pro sports restarting in fits and starts I don't think we can expect anything different to happen with college football programs. It seems to be the making of an asterisk season if we see, from a purely football analysis point of view, starters and important members of teams having to take a couple of weeks off during practice but especially during the season to quarantine. I say from a football analysis point of view because football right now is trivial to the pandemic. A lot of NFL players are still questioning safety protocols.

I can still remember a lot of the discussion back and forth during the first Hawkeye Nation Coronavirus thread about test, contact tracing, the virus being played down, the virus be described as a bad situation. We have several more months of evidence to look at the fact that this virus is a disrupting influence on regular activities.

Yeah that thread got up to 5000 posts with me at #4999 :) Dangit Rob!

My concerns that seperates college and maybe even pro football, is that rosters are much smaller and players are being kept in bubbles. I think MLB is going to give us the closest indicator of whether or not football is a viable option. I think MLS, NBA, and NHL once started have the opportunity to play out rather well as the environments are controllable and the athletes are monitored 24/7. I simply don't see anyway to do that when you take confinement out of the equation and replace it with traveling and exposure to the public.
