Hawkeyes in the NFL Week 12: George Kittle Shines Again in Primetime

We might want to consider adding that TE route tree to our playbook! :)

Lulz. If Brian Ferentz called that play, he would be liable for any injuries the QB suffered because Stanley would have some lineman crushing him by the time the TE got about 12 yards down the field. We'd go through like 5 QBs a year if we needed that much time to get a pass off.

I noticed that as well! But a guy can dream! Just run it on first down when everyone on the field and in the stadium knows that down is a 70% run down for us!

They basically sent two receivers into the pattern on that play.

Two safety valves leaked out late after they had satisfied blitz responsibility. They had max protection on that play, totally sold run.

With Stanley's arm I would take at least one shot per quarter with a play like that.

You take it once per quarter and maybe it works in the first quarter, but then the defense leaves one guy back 60 yards off the LOS and he gets 3 INTs when the next three passes get airmailed. Probably just as good as punts, though.

Total dismantling of the Rams by the Baltimore Ravens last evening.

Lamar Jackson is looking like an MVP candidate with his amazing November. He is Russell Wilson on steroids.

The one who really deserves credit, however, is recently retired Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome, probably the best GM in the business over the past quarter century.. We've talked about how his first two picks for the relocated franchise were Jonathon Ogden and Ray Lewis, and other brilliant moves he's made. We've talked about that.

Jackson may be his best steal yet. Picked after Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen and Josh Allen, Jackson is running laps around the other four. Only Allen has really lived up to his billing so far and Rosen has already been shipped and benched.

Think of what Ozzie Newsome could do he was picking consistently higher in the draft every year, and not toward the end of rounds!

That's another thing that drives me nuts. Third and long, throw the bomb. A pick is as good as a punt. Aaron Rodgers does it half a dozen times per year. Its like taking a sack on fourth down. ITS FOURTH DOWN!!!! Get rid of it! Don't give up MORE field position by taking the sack. Many D Backs will knock that pass down anyway.

If we can get a D back 60 of the LOS, that's an earned victory for us. That's one less player available for run support.

He will fade just like Cam, and every running QB before him. Runners don't last long in the NFL

That's for worrying about down the road, and you are probably correct. But for 2019 he looks like an MVP candidate who, like Cam and Kapernick, may get to one more Super Bowl than Phillip Rivers or Matt Stafford or Jay Cutler ever have.

I think a handful of generational talent QBs will emerge in the next few years as Brady and Rodgers and Brees retire/age out. Maybe guys like Trevor Lawrence and Mahomes. Maybe a couple others. And everyone will embrace the Seattle method - no more trying to draft a franchise QB, just find an expendable guy who is good for a few years and try to win in that window with a great team around him. The problem with trying to land a franchise QB is you have to be like 0-16 to get him in the draft. Then you have a terrible team and if you start him as a rookie, he will die due to your porous line. On the other hand, if you have an overall decent team and you land a guy who can run who is a decent QB, you will get a couple years from him and hopefully win before you have to pay him and gut your team. It's going to really increase variability once Brady retires.
