Hawkeyes Have Good Chance with NYC PG Christian Vital

I could see Tyler Cook and Chrisian Vital being a great combo. Thought I saw on Twitter a month or so ago that Cook we trying to recruit Vital to Iowa City. Would be fun seeing those two run the break together.

That's good to hear. I know Fran has been talking to him and I know we are listed as one of his favorites, but hadn't heard whether an official offer was on the table. Good to hear Fran is in the market for a PG, but still thinking a seasoned grad transfer would be a better option, but maybe there simply isn't anyone out there at this time.

I'd be happy with a PG or a post and agree that a grad transfer seems to fit best right now considering scholarship distribution. The grad transfer PG market is pretty thin so the competition is stiff.

As I said, these things are very fluid. Vital seems like he's taking his time with the process which could leave him out of luck with us. We'll see. Timing is everything, especially at this point.

Whether you meant it to be or not, that's a knock on Clemmons, who worked his butt off to help rebuild the program.
Anyone who doesn't understand what Clemmons meant to the team this year doesn't really understand basketball. With that said, I think he means that he is looking for someone who can take control at the end of the game maybe? We seemed to struggle with that down the stretch. But guys like that don't grow on trees, so if we ended up with a guy who could handle the point, play solid defense, and be a good teammate, I would be ok with it. Of course we all want a Tyler Ulis like guy, but that's not realistic at this point.

I appreciate what Clemmons did for this team but we are past the rebuilding and need to get game changers to take us to the next level imo.

Clemmons was the best on-ball perimeter defender we had. He did a heck of a job most of this past season. He was limited offensively but he did hit some big shots, too.

This is going to be a process. Lickliter turned the program into a dumpster fire. I'm not ready to say Fran can't push this program farther up the ladder.

Connor McCaffery is a really good, sound player ranked on the Top 100 by most evaluators. Joe Wieskamp is an absolute stud and Patrick McCaffery has a chance to be one as well.

Dom Uhl has two more years left to improve a unique skill set. I really like Wagner. I'm interested to see what we have in Moss, Tyler Cook and company. Baer is a glue player.

We're just not going to recruit like Michigan State, Indiana, Ohio State, etc., most days. We're built more like Wisconsin where we have to red shirt some guys and develop players. I know some fans hate that, but it is what it is.

I'm not saying we should recruit as good as MSU, I'm just saying I'd like to get a guard that doesn't disappear. Clemmons, when the effort and mind was in it, could be a lock down defender and could get to the rack but a lot of times didn't. I don't even want to mention pressure freethrows. I'm very happy he was a Hawk but I'm just saying as the program builds, the talent should too (hints us snagging Cook).
