Hawkeyes Gain Commitment from CT WR Nico Ragaini

So does this mean the door has closed for Drake Stoops, or are we expecting a WR or two to transfer?

Hard to say. I can't get Drake to respond to me since after the early signing period. That could be something or nothing.

Iowa had three scholarships open up last week with Jackson, Daniels and Wiegers leaving. Receiver is a position of need. Might not be an either/or with Stoops.

I'll admit, I want him because of the name alone, but I know Duggan gave him pretty high praise as well. Thanks Rob.

Geez man.

All we can hope is that he is one that fell through the cracks and is really fast. We all know speed is what we need. Look what we have had to work with. What do you mean Geez man? I am not putting the kid down but when you have struggled with speed like we have and competing agaisnt Boston College and Yale how can you not question things?

Maybe we got lucky and snagged a speedster. I am hoping.

I simply meant geez.

Question away.

Lol, pretty funny.

Stole one away from Boston College and Yale. ;)

I suspect grades wont be an issue with this one, given he is a prep school kid with offers from Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Brown, New Hampshire & Army. The smarter kids generally adapt a bit better at school far away from home than kids already struggling with grades. I understand that isn't why they recruited him, but it helps the overall picture.

I actually am somewhat concerned by his slight offer list, but the early signing period has me wondering if a more kids than usual are falling through the cracks.

Maybe the higher profile ones get scrutinized and analyzed up to the early signing date, then everyone else who hasn't signed yet gets looked at once there is fewer recruits to look at overall, and a more focused effort on each teams' remaining top targets. At least that's what I'm hoping.

The early signing period feels like the first 2 days of the NFL draft where most of the top prospects are selected.

This period feels like day 3 of the draft, where teams are scrambling to see what prospects were overlooked.

Typical Kirk receiver recruit. Good hands, runs good routes, average speed, tough, "high motor", and I presume a good blocker.

Boston College took Matt Ryan from us. We get a little payback with Rocket Ragaini.

On tape, appears to be an overachiever with average athletic ability, but plays the position with a bit of a linebackers mentality, which I like. He's the kind of player that will make big plays at times and get under the skin of the opposing team. I don't see him being shy at all going over the middle and making those tough 3rd down grabs.

Good roster guy from what little I've seen. He really wants to be here and says all the right things. Probably not an impact player, but he'll fit into this program just fine. Reminds me a bit of a poor-man's Austin Carr. If he can even come close to that level, he would be quite a find.

Recent Crystal Balls on 247 are indicating Stoops to Oklahoma, so that may have prompted the offer.
