Hawkeyes are consistently inconsistent

This team must drive the coaches crazy: May plays great against Mn and basically a no show against OSU, Brommer comes back from the dead and teases us tonight, Baasbe probably has been our most consistent player so far in the big ten season, Cartwright plays hard and is our best penetrator but still has way too many turnovers, Gatens is a streaky role player at best, needs more talent around him to succeed, Cole is way too undersized for this conference and is always in foul trouble, McCabe and Marble have not proven they are big ten players,

Fran had a good game plan and the hawkeyes competed but were way too overmatched. The coaches probably have no idea which player is going to play well and which isnt but I will give Brommer credit he played awesome tonight!!

If you had never seen Iowa play before you would swear Brommer was your best player. He played very well tonight.

Fran said it best in his last press conference. Getting everyone to focus, concentrate, and play hard on every possession. Brommer had that tonight and no one else really did. Not sure why that is. Not sure why Brommer can't bring that every game. That is why Fran makes the big bucks, to figure that out.

It is year one under Fran and as a fan I am constantly wondering when the whole team will be on the same page, I can only imagine what is going through his head.
This is the transition year, I like what I see and there are going to be games against the top teams Iowa is going to get thumped, due to lack of overall talent. Iowa has some good players, but no depth, well, depth that can come in an be productive consistently. Iowa will be much improved next season as I think Basabe will be "the man" that Iowa can rely upon to do a ton of things. Fran will continue to add quality depth like he started to this year before the injuries and Iowa will be better off for it. Year two is not going to resemble year one at all. We need another player like Basabe, but maybe a little taller, but the same type of athleticism and length. I think it is essential to add a PG that can develop. With Fran the Iowa roster will develop instead of implode.

I agree with the OP, Iowa just can't seem to get a good game out of multiple players in one game. It's Cartwright one game, Basabe the next, then Gatens will finally get it going, but none of them get it going collectively. May disappeared again tonight and Gatens struggled. Had those two been productive tonight, with Cartwright, Basabe and Brommer having o.k. games, then Iowa would have been a lot more competitive. We all knew it would be a long season, especially in the Big Ten, however, it's still frustrating to go through it.
