Hawkeye Hoops starting 5 for 2015, right here

Agree, makes sense. Uhl can be the energetic sixth man. Jok has nice size and can rebound. Put him on another forward.

That's likely to be the lineup to start the year. After a few games I wouldn't be surprised to see Clemmons as the 1st guy off the bench. He'll get starters minutes but Fran will likely do what he did this year and stagger the minutes so either him or Gesell are on the court at all times.

As for who would crack the starting lineup in Clemmons' place? I could see Uhl or one of the incoming freshmen getting a shot if they prove that they are worthy early in the season and in practice.

Who knows, maybe Williams will end up being a capable backup PG from the get go so Clemmons will stick as the starting 2.

IMO it all depends on which returning bench or incoming players come in and are most ready to contribute.

If Jones commits I can see him starting at power forward. I think Uthoff wants to stay at small forward and shifting over when the need arrives. Wagner might have a shot too.

Hopefully not. We really need a couple of the incoming players to make a difference. Maybe not a starting issue but playing time one. If these five are our top five with the majority of minutes we are looking at a second division finish in a very good league

Yes, I meant to mention him as well if he indeed ends up a Hawk. Like I said, I think it all depends on which incoming players or returning bench players begin the year showing they are capable of becoming a contributor for more than just spot minutes.

Until Fran has seen everyone play together, the OP's starting lineup is probably the one we'll see, at least for the first couple of games.

Good Lord! I hope Uhl makes a HUGE leap forward during the offseason. And it wouldn't hurt if either he or Wagner / Hutton can add 2 inches and 20#.

That Woodbury - Uthoff - Uhl combo / rotation is going to make or break next year. That's inconsistent, foul-prone and soft + long, athletic, proven producer + young, undersized, unknown with flashes ...
right now, that's a lean toward "break".

Mike
Jok
Uhl
Uthoff
Woody

Clemmons off the bench keeps some experience in the 2nd group and a lot more flexibility for lineups than having Uhl first off.

I love the idea of Uthoff being guarded by 4s but not him banging at the other end with them... He had trouble holding his own down there at times against a guy like Hayes at Wisconsin. It'll be a new and different type of team next year and what the lineup and rotations end up being will be interesting. With the new young faces that will be added to the mix it's just so early to know how it'll all shake out.

I'm not worried about Uthoff guarding 4's at all. There is only a couple guys in the B1G he would have trouble with and all most others will struggle with those guys anyway. He is so long that even when guys back him down close he will still contest shots.

MG
Jok
JU
Dale Jones
Woody

Order of min off the bench:
Clemmons
Uhl
Fleming
Wagner

If Iowa lands Jones, Jok cleans up his TOs and less occasional defensive lapses, and Woody takes even a small step forward, this should be an NCAAT team. If MG gets his 3pt shot back and Uhl makes a F to Soph leap, this will be a very good team.

Appears there will be no Jones, nor anyone of significant need in the front court for next year.:confused:

Here's to Woody's "find your toughness, figure out how to play like a 5 and bring it all together on a consistent basis" senior season and Uhl being the most improved player in the B1G14. Otherwise, Iowa's likely to get eaten alive inside ...

He has been commited for awhile now. He just now signed though. We still have one more scholarship left due ti Dickerson leaving.

If the season started tomorrow, yes, I'd say Woody, JU, Jok, Sapp, MG would start. Those are the most experienced players. They might be the starters yet in the fall. I think with the apparently imminent addition of Jones on or after his visit on the 18th to fill the final scholarship for 2015's class, the top 7 rotation appears to be Woody, Jones, Uthoff, Uhl, Jok, Sapp, MG. Depending on who emerges (or doesn't), Jones, Uhl, or Sapp could end up starting with Woody, Uthoff, Jok and MG. I think Uhl or Jones starts eventually with Sapp starting as a fall back. A frosh or 2 will make the top 8-9- with one possibly breaking through as the season progresses.

With 5 and likely 6 new guys coming next year, who starts the season is not a very interesting topic at this point.

Thank you, Fred Hoiberg, but shouldn't you be prepping for surgery??

One of the all knowing Sportswriters for the Gannett-owned sheet, in Iowa says
Christian Williams is a prolific starter.

If so, he might start right out of the gate. Or, perhaps newcomer, Dale Jones.

That's a nice recruiting pitch to Dale Jones. Sign with the Hawkeyes and be a starter on Top 25,
Big10 team that made the Dance in 2015. Minnesota can't offer that

Go freakin HAWKEYES

Woodbury, Gesell and Uthoff will start. Jok is probable but I'm not willing to put him as a lock. There will be a lot of young talent on next year's team. And Fran will play the best rotation. Notice I didn't say he will start the 5 best players. The best rotation could mean having a couple key guys on the bench entering the game at about the 15 minute mark. Also, Fran has proven in the past that a 2 year starter can go to the bench if a freshman is better.

OK...........with the addition of Dale Jones, I'm going to make a slight adjustment

1 - Gesell, Clemmons
2- Jok, Clemmons, Fleming,
3- Uthoff, Jok, Moss, Uhl
4- Dale Jones, Uthoff, Uhl?
5- Woody, D Jones

I might bring Clemons off the bench for gesel and start uhl or jones if he is the part. Either way, we have potential

Gesell
Jok
Uthoff
Jones
Woodbury

What I love about the bench is all the potential mismatches that can be created. What I don't is no real size so if Woodbury/Jones get in foul trouble could get ugly.
