Hawkeye hockey team playing in regional tournament | TheGazette

I went to the game when they played ISU. There was an ice storm and a Hawkeye away basketball game on that day and very few braved the roads. It was a very good time. The players really played to the kids and that was fun. Will be going again in the future. Recommend it to anyone who is looking for something to do when they are in season. From article:

The Hawkeyes Division III club hockey team is playing this weekend in an American Collegiate Hockey Association regional tournament in Springfield, Ill. The team’s opener is Friday night against College of the Canyons (Calif.).

Iowa hopes to make it to the D-III national tournament in mid-March in Springfield, Mo. This is the second consecutive year the Hawks have qualified for ACHA Division III regionals.

I would think there is enough junior hockey around to support 1 D1 hockey school, the USHL is popular around here.

Not to mention that Minnesota and North Dakota are like the Texas of hockey...even if the best-of-the-best stay in state, there's still talent enough to feed a nearby D1 team.

With the B1G having a hockey conference next year look for Iowa in the years to come to look into move up to D1. I think it would be cool if they didn't have a home ice arena but instead play in all the ice arenas in the state. Have games in CR, Waterloo, Des Moines, Dubuque, and maybe Council Bluffs. Make it so everyone in the state have the opportunity to see the Hawks in action.
