Hawkeye History Question: Iowa vs. ND

Iowa has not played Notre Dame since 1968. There was a time, though, that they were a fixture on the Hawkeyes' schedule. Iowa played Notre Dame for 18 consecuative years between 1945 and 1962. After that stretch the Hawks played ND only three more times ('64, '67, and '68). The Hawks lost the last four meetings by scores of 12-35, 0-28, 6-56 and 28-51.

My question: Why did Iowa and Notre Dame stop playing each other after 1968? Was it a mutual decison or unilateral on one side or the other because Iowa no longer was a compotent matchup for Notre Dame? Does anyone know why they stopped playing after being a fixture on each other's schedule for so long?

I am not sure how this comes into play, but I was under the impression that there was some bad blood because of the "fainting irish" incident. (I don't have time to type the explanation, but if you google it, you will find it)

I hear tell of bad blood as well ... plus we aren't exactly fertile recruiting ground for them
