Hawk player remaining eligibility question

On the radio call last nite Dolph mentioned Petras has two years remaining to play at Iowa. I know he is listed as a junior at the hawk's main athletic site. Does this mean he has only one more year or does he have the extra year still from last years covid exemptions?

And the same question goes with all the player's current year status listed on the Iowa roster.

Correct, for anyone who played in 2020 (no matter if a freshman or senior), that year does not count against your eligibility.

Iowa has a couple pretty important super-seniors this year (ZVV, Hankins, Shudak), but they don't have many overall. Some of the seniors on the 2-deep who could come back next year:

Schott
Charlie Jones
IKM
Moss
Koerner

As you can see, not a lot of seniors in the 2-deeps.

Thanks for the info. I was not sure if the online roster was adjusted for that extra covid year or not. I assumed if a player was listed as a junior or senior that was their true athletic year with covid exemption added in. I am being selfish but it would be nice if all those guys would come back. I know we are a young team and it is amazing how they have gelled into such a great team.

The roster does NOT add covid exemption in.

Its scary to think about how good Iowa would be if they could have got ISM to come back.

He would have been huge. Maybe Kallenberger just as big of a deal?

I like the natural turnover and giving the young guys a shot, though. I think these 3 freshman WR are going to be record-setting. And Colb/Davidikov will bookend our OL for the next 3 years.

I was thinking IKM was a super senior this year because it seems like he has been around forever, but thinking it through, I guess you are right.

2017 - Wadley was starting. IKM played as true freshman
2018 - IKM was originally the starter as true soph, got hurt, Sargent took over as starter
2019 - Sargent was starter at first, then later Goodson took over as starter, IKM got hurt early and took a redshirt year sitting out rest of the year.
2020 - Goodson is the starter, Sargent is main backup, IKM plays very little as redshirt junior. This year does not count against eligibility.i
2021- Goodson is the starter. IKM is main backup as redshirt senior
2022 - IKM could play as a super senior if he wants

So I guess he had 3 years in a row with injury problems, 2018-2020, so it just seemed like his eligibility should be up, but I was wrong.

Those guys are mostly late round our UDFA guys, I’d love to see every one of ‘em come back.

The ones I think would make a difference are Scott (experience on otherwise young OL) and Jones (return game). Even though Jones is awesome I'm that role, it could be someone like Bruce may be as good.

For the DBs, I just don't think there will be any dropoff, and I don't want guys like Bracy or Castro to transfer.

I am assuming Baum squad is gone after this year. Maybe Campbell? Jacobs has already shown up on top 100 draft lists.

Linderbaum and Campbell for sure.

Linderbaum would hurt bad, but great to have more early-entry, 1st rd pick attention.

I would feel really good about a returning Jacobs, Benson, Higgins, Fisher LB corp.
