Hate being 0-2 against Wisconsin but...

Here's what Michigan did against Wisconsin last year.

2/9/13 - Michigan lost at Wisconsin 62-65.

3/15/13 - Michigan lost to Wisconsin 59-68 in BTT.

Side Note - Michigan did not get a Thursday bye in the BTT...5 seed.

4/8/13 - Michigan lost to Louisville in the National Championship game 76-82.

I am not saying Iowa will make the National Championship game. I am saying that losing 2 games to Wisconsin and/or not getting a Thursday bye in the BTT does not mean Iowa can't make a run in the NCAA Tournament.

Edit - Michigan was also 3-4 in Big 10 games decided by 6 points or less.

WI knows how to close....

Frustrating thing is, we swept those suckers two years ago and almost did so last season, with what we thought were inferior teams.

Exactly. I think the assumption was that because Iowa lost a close game last year in Madison and swept them the year before that Iowa was on an upward trajectory and that would be above Wisconsin for years to come. Even the game in Madison this year people assumed would have gone iowa's way had Fran not lost his mind.

Even Jon has stated that in his power rankings most of the year about Wisconsin (Iowa would win the majority of 10 games played on a neutral court etc).

The fact is Wisconsin is just really good and tough and has been for a while. Losing to them sucks but they're one of the top programs in the BIG. Never to be taken lightly.

You have frequently used this comparison with Michigan. I get you're trying to cope and be hopeful but you keep trying to call the hiccups of last year's Michigan team the same as the coughing spells of this year's Hawkeyes.

That Michigan team had an NBA ready sophomore pg. Iowa has a damn fine B10 caliber sophomore pg who will be all B10 as a senior.

That Michigan team had an NBA ready junior sg. Iowa has a very good, very versatile senior sg who will be first-team all B10 and hopefully drafted. He'll definitely have a strong European career or probably get a shot after the D-league.

That Michigan team had a highly ranked recruiting class -- McGary, GR-III, Stauskus -- that lived up to it's billing. Iowa is still coaching up it's recruits, and, with the exception of Gesell, continues to water down their contributions as it struggles to define their roles in the rotation.

'12-'13 Michigan was a much tighter team, with more high-end talent, than this Hawkeye team. That team's "stars" / starters were given ample opportunity to contribute ...
So-1 = 35.3 min;
Jr-2 = 34.8 min;
Fr-3 = 30.8 min;
Fr-4 = 33.6 min;
Fr-5 / Jr-5 = 35.6 min
(6 guys played 170.1 of 200 minutes per game -- 85%) and, to a man, they all stepped up to the challenge.

Meanwhile, Iowa's "stars" / starters, despite being more experienced, average 130.3 of 200 minutes per game -- 65%. There are 9 guys averaging over 16 minutes a game and some of those subs (by definition, less talented, less skilled players) average MORE minutes than the "stars" / starters.

There's simply not a comparison. That Michigan team was a tight, focused, well-managed team that (over?) achieved great things. Iowa is a distracted, diluted team (I think the two are correlated) that is underachieving relative to it's talent, experience and competition due to the staff mistaking quantity for quality.

Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the opponent. Yeah, Iowa didnt play very well, especially defensively and missed Basabe, but Wisconsin played very well. They won most of the 50/50 balls, shot it very well especially in the first half and never got rattled, they just kept playing. They also dont turn the ball over either. Iowa could gain some pointers from Wisconsin in taking care of the basketball.

Fran is trying to play with two 4's and no 3. It causes defensive matchup problems defending quicker 3's on the perimeter. While we should have some advantage inside vs. the opponents, it seems that the Hawks don't get the ball in to the post to players bigger than who is guarding them.

That loss stings for a number of reasons. Iowa right now is looking at being anywhere from a 3 to a 6 seed in the big ten tournament and only the first 4 seeds get a bye. There's still a lot of ball left to be played, and the tournament after the big ten tournament means a lot more obviously, but the Hawks sure put themselves in a bad place. However, it's nothing a 3-win week won't take care of :)

I pray to Tom Cruise we face Wisconsin again in the Big Ten Tournament

I can't recall, who beat Wisky in he BTT last year?

I believe they lost to OSU in the title game.

I think Wisconsin is the last team the hawks would want to face because of all the things Dakich mentioned: we feast off of turnovers and Wisky doesn't turn it over much, we get a ton of our points at the FT line but Wisky doesn't foul much, we want to get out and run but Wisconsin is an excellent transition defensive team.

That's not a great combination but yeah, I want to play them again too for a little revenge.

Yeah White had a 6 inch height advantage on Gasser in the post but rarely took advantage of that. At one point he had an 8 inch advantage on Brust and Koenig.

Based on what is seen from wisky previously I thought we had this one for sure. They were better than I had expected. They have really gotten better in half court sets. They make very few mistakes
