I'm a bit surprised that many have been down on this squad. Yes, it would have been nice to win a game in the Garden, but I feel very good about this group. We are getting excellent production out of White, Uthoff, and Woody. In my opinion, Woody has really stepped up this year. He does so many "little" things. He is great at hedging on ball screens, outlet passing, talking, etc... He has improved his mid-range jumper and is taking the ball to the basket with more strength. Yes, you can complain about the turnover when he forced the pass to White, but he will learn from this.

Whitey has been terrific. All-Big 10 terrific. He needs to consistently put forth this effort; I see this happening.

Jarrod does some very nice things. 55% from 3 is ridiculous. I'd love to see Fran continue to expect more offense out of him and to put him in situations that will give him these opportunities. His strength makes me nervous at the end of games/halves, because refs will swallow their whistles (especially on the road), but I'd go through him if I need a bucket.

Our guards have been underwhelming. Clemmons needs to stay in the starting lineup. He has a toughness to him that I love. Also, defensively he's solid. I love Mike G, but he has struggled. It was very telling against Texas when he was being denied the ball in the half-court. He really struggled just to get open.

I think Josh and Jok are going to be huge keys. I like Josh's overall game. He had a costly turnover in NY, but I'm ok with him taking big shots this year. Jok has to make good decisions with the ball, and he has to want to play like a division I basketball player on the defensive end. Fran is really wanting to get him involved more, but Peter is shooting himself in the foot.

I love that we are playing a tough schedule. I'd rather take a few lumps here and there this time of year. We'll be ok. Go Hawks!

I want to see more of Dickerson, Jok and Uhl. Need 1 or 2 of these guys to emerge as the season progresses.

I think all 3 of these guys will progress as the season goes on. By March, they may look like completely different players. All three have a lot of skills, they are still learning and just need to learn how to let the game come to them. It takes time.

As far as I'm concerned, this team is pretty much similar to last years team. Pull off wins over the remaining cupcakes and beat UNI and Iowa State in the non-con and people will be looking at this team team differently I would think (at least I will.) We just need some quality wins (they'll be opportunities) for the fans to believe again.

Not that Butler is ever a pushover, but Iowa will be North Carolina's first real test. Too bad its not in Iowa City.

The Cyclones first true road game is against the Hawkeyes as well. I'm curious to see how the Cyclones play against Maryland tomorrow as Maryland seems like they could be a solid team.

The Hawks will have plenty of chances to build a resume, those losses in New York definitely won't hurt them

A team never looks good or endears a lot of hope when it can't shoot well. This is not a new problem with these players.

I think the football program put a stink-bomb in Hawk sports that is effecting a short fuse for the basketball team. That's not fair, of course, but I think there is truth to it.

I think we'll end up in the 8 to 10th place position in the BIG. I like the team and our players but our back court is going to really struggle in conf play.

UNC is playing Butler in the Battle for Atlantis tournament which we played in last year, Wisconsin, Florida, Oklahoma, UCLA and Georgetown are also in that tournament so they will be tested before they play us.

Good shooting can cover up a lot of weaknesses, on the other hand bad shooting is going to expose a lot of those. That's not necessarily a bad thing early in the season. Not being able to knock down open shots puts more pressure on your ability to defend, to rebound, to try to create better looks. It's not going to leave anyone on the team or staff under the impression that they are a better team than they actually are.

I think people are down on the team because they saw some of what we saw last year. Build a lead and then fall apart. But the Cuse game was different. They showed a ton of fight. We just need the guards to pull it together a little bit, and we will be just fine. I'm still cautiously optimistic.
