Gus Johnson: Iowa hoops future bright

I don't follow anyone on Twitter, but if I did, Gus would be #1. Class act and lots of love for the Hawks. Stark contrast to Steve Smith, Jimmy Jackson, Doyle and Morris feeling sorry for us while Lickliter was here and talking about how Iowa hoops used to be back in the day. We have a future....

When I was reading that article my inner-monologue was yelling and screaming in Gus Johnson's voice. Dang you Jim Nantz, I am going to miss Gus Johnson on AFC games.

CBS hung on to Billy Packer too long and now they lose Gus and hang to a great golf announcer in Jim Nantz, Gus can make a Northwestern-Penn state game sound exciting.

I really like Gus also. He does show some love for the Hawks. It is good to see. He was complimentary last year when most everyone else was not. As far as announcers are concerned, Clark Kellogg is a very good one, in my opinion.

“So I like to know these kids because they try hard. They want to do well. They dream like we all do of success, of being able to do something great. Those are the kind of stories, that’s something I want to be a part of.”

That's awesome.

“I think Iowa and the athletic department really found the right guy because he’s going to bring players down there. What we do know is coaching is great, but it’s about having the great players. I think he got off to a good start, they were competitive all the time although they were outnumbered and outgunned."

I think this sums it up as a whole. The Staff is very good and they will get players, there is another quote about Fran seeing what he did in Basabe that also speaks volumes. Fran and staff know what kind of kid they are looking for and they don't have to be the 4/5* kid to be great. Iowa played at a much higher level than their record indicated. This year will be much more fun to watch with the added depth and athleticism.

I understand that Gus is never going to bad mouth any team, especially a Big Ten team, but I always felt Gus was almost pulling for Iowa when he announced a few of the Hawks' games. I dismissed it as Gus just being a good announcer, but I think he likes the style of ball Fran wants to play.
