Guarding the inbound pass

Along the lines of pushing the rules envelope as Ben Jacobson's teams seem so adept at doing, I'd like to see Fran teach our guys to encroach the out of bounds line when guarding the inbound pass. Tom Davis' guys -- especially Ed Horton --mastered this. The referee would wave the imaginary plane between the defensive and offensive players and move the Iowa defender back, but within a second Ed or whoever would be right on the line, even stepping over it, making it harder for the offensive player to return the ball to play or to make an accurate pass. Yes, presumably that is a violation of the basketball rules. But it is NEVER called, or at least it wasn't during the Davis era.
