Posted this on Twitter, thought I'd post it here too.

For the hardcore football geeks, here's an 1hour+ film review of some football scouting heavyweights looking at Brandon Scherff:

Lance and Matt both operate at a very high level and this video is an great view into an example of high quality OL scouting. Some fascinating historical commentary on Iowa's previous 1st round OTs mixed in as well.

Watched most of it, was excellent analysis and I learned a lot. I think it's a good thing for Brandon that they didn't do this with the Maryland game. I'd hate to be the Northwestern defender that has to face him though, two weeks to chew on that performance...

Only 20 minutes into it, probably finish up watching tomorrow. i know there is a lot of talk about him switching to guard at the next level, so far from what I have seen from this video his pass blocking technique can get cleaned up to the point where he can play tackle at the NFL level. I do not think the Maryland game or this seasons drops him out of the 1st rd. maybe the top 10, ehhh, do not know about that.

He was getting beat a lot by outside speed, in that video and in the Maryland game. I think that's why he's a OG at the next level. The guy breaking down Scherff mentioned the reasons for him getting beat outside. I don't think he does a good job at keeping his head up and his rear end down (He referred to it as "keeping his back flat") while he moves laterally to try and stay in front of an outside pass rusher. Don't take that the wrong way. It's a very difficult thing to do and it's one of the main reasons AA Tackles at the college level, don't make it in the NFL at the same position.

Besides watching Scherff and the line blocking which was interesting I noticed some nice cutback lanes that running backs are missing.

If our running backs were a little more cutback conscious maybe the running game would be more efficient and have more ypcarry and yards after contact.

The second run play is a good example where the LG went low to take down the DTackle, zone blocking to the right, MSU really overpursued and if Weisman cuts back there is a 5+ yard wide running lane for good yardage instead of a 1 yard loss. I know it is easier said than done but the running back has to have that instant recognition of all the white jerseys to the outside and look for cutback or just cutback.
