I didn't have to work today so I watched the tape delay on Big Ten last night. I also listened to Ironside on the radio live so here's my thoughts.
McDonough gets a B+, he had a little trouble when Hammen rode him but other than that Matt is the real deal guys. Worst case senerio he gets 4th in Ohmaha. I have that much faith in him. I can't wait for his match with Escobedo at Big Tens.
Dennis gets a C, He has a little bit of trouble with the "slicker" type wrestlers guys. He is a grinder and will always have problems with these types of matches. Graff will give him fits but I think Dennis wins the match 9 out 10 times. He still needs to get over the hump and find some more offense. I think that's something the coaching staff emphisizes over the next couple of weeks.
Marion gets a B, Gets takendown off his own shot in a wild scramble and the letting him go with under 5 seconds keeps him from a high B low A. Marion is so darn quick, needs to work on positioning a bit and I am sure the coaching staff will work on that. I am glad I don't have to seed this bracket at Big Tens, he could get anywhere from 2 to 5 seed. It doesn't matter if you ask me, his ceiling is so high it rediculious.
Metcalf gets a ......, I am lost here. What good does it do to forfeit to Brent? Don't know for sure why they did but must be a good reason. Would have loved to see this match to see how Brent would have done, no worries just would have been nice to see.
Kerr gets a C, Pretty much just gave the spot to Janssen if you ask me. To bad because I personally think Kerr matches up better against guys like Schlatter. But I will support Janssen if he is the guy!!
Morningstar gets a C-, It was comical listening to Ironside during this match. Sad to say but the truth. I love Star and have a hard time being real hard on him but he NEEDS to take more risks against guys like Howe. Howe really didn't do a whole lot either. Howe was stall riding and really never has impressed me either, I just don't know why everybody likes him either. I honestly think Reader is the guy to beat here.
Jayb gets a A!!!, Good Lord he is looking REALLY GOOD!! I don't see anybody beating him!! Honestly he is Brent's biggest threat for the Hodge in Ohmaha if you were to ask me.
Keddy gets a B, Another solid win but he is wrestling to the skill of his opponents for now. His match against Pucillo was GREAT and this one was just ok. He didn't do anything special but wrestled ok. He should get the 3 seed and he really wants another shot at Erwin and I think he beats him and gets a shot at Dergo in the finals in a couple weeks.
Keddy can still make a run and don't count him out just yet guys.
Lofthouse gets a B, yeh he lost but showed some really nice things. Brandvold got lucky this was not sent to ot but Lofthouse really showed us that he can hang with the "big dogs" !
Danimal gets a B, Good match could have done more. In his defense he wrestled a wrestler that didn't want do anything. Danimal will be fine and he will make a run at National Title guys and I have no worries here guys. Its good for him to go the whole 7 miniutes guys this will only help him.
Team gets a solid B, Definately areas to work on but just little things. The next week or two in practice should be fun!!! I hope to make it into practice a couple of times this week if possible and am looking foward to Big Tens and Nationals!!! On a side note I watched isu vs. Nebraska and on a side note isu didn't really impress me all that much. Nebraska is terrible and out side of Fan and Reader I was not really that impressed!!!!!
