Good News for the Hawks!

Michigan's Darius Morris staying in NBA draft - ESPN

this kid was really developing into a star, they need to make the underclassman declare and stay for the draft earlier than spring signing date, this will really hurt Michigan! If Hubbard is the real deal the Hawks could go through the same thing next spring

I don't think you have to worry about Hubbard being drafted. He will be 27 next year and I think the oldest player ever selected in the NBA draft was 24 and that was 10 years ago. Now they look at you with a negative look if you are over 22.

Good news for Iowa and the Big 10 for sure. Morris is a really good ball player and Michigan was going to be tough next year if he came back

That is a huge blow to the Wolverines. I think anybody who saw Stu Douglass or whatever the heck his name is try and play PG against Duke would agree.

The Big 10 gets a bit weaker again and that is good for the Hawks.

Do we even know if Hubbard is that great anyway? It sounds like he's got athleticism and I'm not saying he isn't going to be a really good player that we need but is he at NBA level? Shouldn't we see him play at length first? Maybe he is that good but I'd rather wait and see first before proclaiming that.

They've got a nice freshman PG coming in this year, but Morris was something special. He will be very hard to replace.

Stu Douglass won't be the PG. Trey Burke will be. He isn't Morris but he will have Hardway and Morgan there to help out, not to mention the shooters and the other recruits. Still a middle of the pack team.

I wish he would have stayed. I've always like Beilein's offense, I really liked watching West Virginia play while he was there. I thought Michigan was extremely fun to watch at the end of the season last year, and was going to be a top 10 team this year with Morris coming back. But I guess, it's good for Iowa, the B10 is going to be way down from last year now.

If you can play in the NBA they'll take you. Maybe you won't get drafted as high but they'd take you. They might not have drafted anyone over 24 but that might be because all of the great players are so easily identified by the time they're 20 that there just isn't anyone that gets to 24 that's that great and draftable.

Course, not saying Hubb will be drafted in the NBA cause we just don't know......OK, I won't go there again.

What about Brundridge, their highest-rated recruit? He's supposed to be a swing guard at 6'1".

They won't pay big bucks to a guy that old, because they won't get a good return on that investment for very long. And all of this assumes that Hubbard is THAT good in the first place, which is a pretty gigantic leap at this point.

Won't argue with all of that. And if he isn't a great outside shooter as I've heard that hampers him even more. Course, MJ wasn't a great outside shooter his first few years in the NBA (no, I'm not saying Hubb is the next MJ)..

Brundridge is listed as a shooting guard. They also have a 6'1'' PG that is highly rated named Trey Burke. He will have to be absolutely terrific as a freshman to adequately replace Morris.

That's actually incorrect in the NBA because of the rookie wage scale. This isn't the NFL with big guaranteed contracts for rookies.

*If* he was good enough (and I sincerely doubt he is) it would actually be a great deal for a team. Get him in his physical prime for the three year rookie contract, then don't renew him as a free agent when he'd be 30.

Iowa recruited Burke pretty hard. He played on the Ohio Red AAU team...same as Aaron White, among a bunch of good Ohio preps like Jared Sullinger.

He will be good, but Morris would have been right behind Jordan Taylor as the top pgs in the league. Big blow to the wolves....Iowa can split with them now.

Three reasons not to feel bad about Michigan:
1. Trey Burke is a very good player and is as prepared to play as Aaron Craft was. He played with Sullinger in HS and knows how to run a basketball team, but can takeover.
2. Tim Hardaway Jr is still there and will be the man. This opens up a scholarship and Percy Gibson could end up there to team with Morgan...yikes.
3. It's Michigan
