Forbes has a good recruiting resume at Tenn... and he loves Iowa...
 
Unless Iowa makes him the highest paid assistant in the country which would probably take paying him $400,000 to $500,000 he isn't leaving Tenn and I don't think Iowa would pay that much for an assistant in the first place.
 
I seriously wish this would happen, but it's a step down for Forbes. Yes he wants to be the Hawkeye headman someday, but giving up an assistant job with Bruce Pearl to come to a program in the shape that we're in just isn't smart on his part. I'd love to see it happen, but hoping that Forbes will come to be OUR assistant coach is as much of a pipe dream as hoping that Pearl would come to be the head coach.
 
He may love Iowa but why would FM hire a person that wanted his job?? Also, if Forbes wants to be the head hawk someday coming now to be an assistant would not be the way to go about that. How many assistants have we promoted to head???? If FM didn't turn out well with Forbes as an assistant then the only thing that would gaurantee Forbes is that he would never be the head man. Stay at Tennessee get some head coaching experience somewhere and if it ever arises we need a new coach he may get a sniff.
 
I also think it's great that he wants to get a former player on the staff, as well as keeping the others involved. And I also like that he developed some close relationships with guys like Kenyon Murray and Jess Settles when he recruited them at Notre Dame. That should make the transistion smoother as far as getting those guys involved.
