Glad Fran holding refs accountable

The first half was terrible. It seemed like neither team could go two possessions without having a foul called. The amount of whistles pretty much destroyed any rhythm the game had. There were over 20 combined fouls in the first half.

It was enjoyable to see Fran's fire this evening.

Not only holding the refs accountable but also his animation in the huddle at time outs was quite interesting.

I don't believe I ever saw that kind of fire ever out of the previous regime.

That's because it never happened. Fran was definitely up Sanzere's *** all night long.

I think it is obvious that there is a 100% chance that Fran will get ejected from Valentine this season. That guy hates the Hawkeyes and Fs em' every time. No way does Fran sit there and take it, and good for him. I don't think it will help matters, but doing nothing surely wasn't helping either.
The Big Ten would be wise to just quit scheduling Valentine to officiate Hawkeye games when it is obvious he is after them for some reason. Does anyone know what is the reason behind this?

The Cole foul on the rebound tonight? Did we ever get an explanation for what the ref seen that led him to making that call? What was the foul for? This is purely HATE or reasons off the court such as BETTING that these foul calls are made. No way is that and many other bad calls simply bad calls. They are made outside of better judgement. Look at it... that Uhlenhopp(sp?) goes right over his back and the call is made on Cole. Then when Uhlenhopp misses the FT, they call Gatens for lane violation. Palming could have been called on Rice all night... Marble comes into the game and they give him the violation? This ref was foul... and something needs to be checked. Amazing the Hawkeyes won on the road tonight and against the refs.
Makes for some horrible, and I mean horrible games. Let them play refs... this isn't the same bad Iowa teams of past that are supposed to lose and will not fight back. I simply ask for the refs to watch other games and call them that way. You don't see these calls made throughout games in Duke vs. UNC or Michigan State vs. Wisconsin, or Depaul vs. Marquette, or any other game on ESPN. It is just a travesty... nobody wants to see a game decided by Free Throws and the hope the next whistle will not be on them. It scares the players to do anything... look at the traveling call on Cartwright vs. Iowa State when he was completely and obviously legal, look at the traveling/charging/out of bounds call that wasn't made on Iowa State in the last minute of the game AND they gave the ball to Iowa State even though nothing was called. Explain that one Mr. Ref. Even a die-hard ISU fan couldn't explain that call. It defies logic and reason and smells of illegal gambling.

I guess I would just like to hear the explanation on the "Cole foul" tonight? What could have possibly been called? What did the official see that was a violation? Perhaps he has a good explanation? Anyone want to chime in that seen it from a different point of view than I?

The Cole foul was the worst call of the night. No one can justify that one.

Well, I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for an explanation. The refs may be held responsible for horrible calls by the Big Ten, although I have never seen any proof of that, but they definitely aren't beholden to the fans.

Well, you are correct about us "fans" not hearing an explanation... but dangit... if someone from the NCAA isn't asking about calls like these, than the NCAA head of officials isn't doing his job. Like I said... this is beyond bad foul calls. These calls are being made out of hate or illegal gambling. They are being made for personal reasons and unjust. This isn't basketball... and the fans from Drake actually CHEERED that call? I was thinking "man, would I cheer that call if it was the other way?" The answer is no! I thought about it and no, I would be glad, but I sure wouldn't be cheering about it! Then again... maybe the average fan at the Drake game doesn't know any better? They probably just think they deserved it? I don't know, but regardless it was just sickening.

Sanzere is about the worst ref in the country, imo. And we seem to end up with him in about half our games. He is incompetent, period. The whole incident where he used a womens ball in that illini mens game for 7 minutes and continued to shoo away players who tried to tell him it was the wrong size a couple of times says it all for me...how the guy keeps getting hired is amazing.
