Getting to Wrigley field

Hope to get up to Wrigley in August to see my Reds and had some questions. Been there a couple times (never driven) and only for 1 game but hope to see 2 games in 2 days so do I drive and fight the traffic or get a hotel out in the burgs and train in?? What do you all think is the easyest way in and out of there?? Never been on the trains in Chicago, are they a pain in the ***?

thanks for any help

Driving to Wrigley is a nightmare and I wouldn't advise it. Unless you take advantage of the remote parking area and ride the shuttle in which that in itself is a pain. The last time my wife and I were in town we took advantage of cheap Hotwire hotel prices near the airport. I think we stayed at the Intercontinental for around $100 a night and it was a very nice place. The CTA Blue Line runs to the airport so what we did is we parked our car at the CTA Rosemont station which is right there by all the airport hotels. Buy a CTA day pass and hop onto the blue line and get off at the Addison station. Then grab an east bound bus which will take you straight to Wrigley. The day pass can be used for both the trains and the bus. Normally I would stay away from big city buses but in this case the thing will be filled with other Cub fans anyway so not a big deal. On the way back you can either wait for a westbound Addison bus or if you're in a hurry like we were just grab a cab and have them run you to the Addison blue line station.

I agree with HFN that driving in and around Wrigleyville should be avoided at all costs. It is an absolute nightmare. Stay somewhere right along the El, and you'll have a much easier time getting to and from Wrigley.

Red line down from Evanston is also a great option. Can stay in any of the burbs up North, drive to Howard stop where parking is fairly cheap compared to anywhere in the city. Take red line right to Wrigley.

This or Skokie is another option. We stayed at a DoubleTree in Skokie a few years back. You can then park at the Dempster-Skokie station and take the Yellow Line (aka The Skokie Express). That only runs between two stations, Dempster-Skokie and Howard. At Howard you transfer to the Red Line and get off on Addison just outside of Wrigley.
