Get Better FB recruits if we have better non-conf TV schedule???

Is the schedule part of the chicken vs the egg scenario in recruiting??

If the Hawks had a top flight non-conf game on national TV each year would that exposure help get some more 4* recruits or at least win some recruiting battles?

Is this a selling point that Iowa lacks, the opportunity to play in the Swamp, or at Legion Field, or the Colosseum, in Athens, GA, Death Valley,

And then home games against these teams the next year.

I think these kids want exposure and want to be see even beyond the nfl scout system. Why do all these kids play on special AAU and youth teams but to get exposure and play against top competition.

We are now locked into ISU for more years, but I think we need to dump one of the softer non-conf games even if it means a loss (hell we can't even beat the softies on the schedule anymore) just as a selling point.

Look it's really simple here and a few of us have brought the elephant in the room up...and either people know it so they don't respond or HN is in total denial. Recruiting is almost everything in the college game. If you get 4-5 star athletes, and you don't need a bunch, and you adapt O and D to the talents you have you can be very successful year in and year out. Our coaching staff does know this they are just helpless apparently in the recruiting dept. to bring that kind of talent in. Once Ws decline then it becomes increasingly difficult to turn your fortunes around because the coaching staff can't adapt schemes and coaching styles and you start suffering mediocre seasons followed by more and more losing seasons. We are on the downward side of KF's regime ability to keep this thing afloat.

Yes, I understand the metric you mention seepig. But my question is something different than the current metric.

My gosh we hardly get any 4* recruits and I agree there should not be a reason our coaching staff thinks we cant get a few more each year.

I think playing in the backyard of top talent in the south is one way to market your program and get some visibility. ESpecially if you get on a good tv network and win.

Heck lets go play at San Diego State and UCLA.

If you can get 3 players each year from these regions that are above avg then you can improve.

I agree with you that the hawks are low on the speed and talent level right now especially at skill positions.

I don't think it is too much of a stretch to say that most (99%) of Hawk fans don't believe we could ever win a national title; although, some think it could happen. I do, but that would need to be a miracle season and I would never hold an Iowa coach to that standard. Having said that, I do not understand the logic in playing 2 directional schools, ISU and an FCS school every year. That does not help us in the BIG standings and if we all believe we aren't perenial NT contenders, it makes no sense. Now, to your question, I do believe it would boost recruiting if our staff could tell a recruit: "in your 4 seasons at Iowa you will play (name household school name & stadium) and we will compete each season for the BIG title. That could sway enough talent to boost what we currently see. I'm all for it. Now, the non-conf schedule we play does assist with job security and bowl eligibility...

BArry Alvarez believes that scheduling games in places like Hawaii regularly has helped his recruiting. Tell a kid come here, you'll be spending a few days in Hawaii and it can't hurt. Suppose similar could be true of games in Florida, Southern california, etc. It's pretty much a proven statement that ESPN & TV look for early season matchups between BCS conferences as well. They make good storylines, get good ratings in two parts of the country. That makes for good national exposure, and a good pitch to recruits as well.
