How does everyone see the PG position playing out next year? Barring injury I think it's safe to assume Gessell is the starter. However, if his shooting problems continue that could be in jeopardy. I don't know what kind of shooter Dickerson is, but he seems to have the quickness and explosiveness that Gessell seem to lack at times. While Dickerson's commitment was great news for the program I'm thinking it's bad news for Clemmons. The coaching staff isn't going to recruit a JC player it sit.

Now if can just get Atwood to commit! The Hawks desperately need an infusion of athletically gifted, talented players and Dickerson and Atwood could help cure what's ailing Iowa basketball.
 
Clemmons admitted earlier in the year that he thought about transferring. I'm guessing he's gone. He has zero confidence, which is sad considering what he showed as a freshman. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems Fran spends more time tearing guys down than building them up.
 
There will be minutes for all of them. But that's way to far away yet. All three could improve a bunch, which would be fantastic.
 
Hopefully Clemmons stays, and we see more Gesell off the ball. Yes Mike has struggled to shoot well, but he's worse at initiating the offense.
 
I follow this team about as closely as anyone and I have never heard Clemmons say he was thinking about transferring. Link?

You don't understand basketball if you think this. The yr started with him playing the 2 and marble at the 1 and it didn't work. We were just playing inferior teams that couldn't exploit it. Fran admitted it was a mistake and changed to gesell at pg. it put him and marble in their best positions. The offense is at its most efficient with gesell at pg.

note to op gesell is spelled with only one "s".

i really think there is a higher than 50% chance clemmons leaves. Just can't see him happy with his playing time.
 
I'm hoping Dickerson beats out Gesell at the PG spot only because it will mean Iowa has a pretty good point guard.

He said it in a social media chat that he hosted sometime in February. I saw it. Some fan asked him if he had thought of transferring and he said that he'd be lying if he hadn't thought of it. I doubt it's still "linkable", though.
 
I just believe Dickerson is going to play and Fran went the judo route because he knew he was good enough to make a difference immediately.

You don't go after juco projects at the PG spot.

I think Clemmons is going to transfer. Its really unfortunate too considering he was a freshman starter for awhile, but it just didn't work out for him. I always thought he could be something special if given enough minutes, but when you only play 5 minutes a game its really hard to get into a rhythm.

I would assume Gesell/Dickerson and Oglesby/Jok will get the majority of the guard minutes next year

I do too, the kid can score and he's playing against pretty good high school competition. He shot 48% from 3 as a junior, I know Matt Thomas got a lot of love last year for being the best shooter in his class but he only shot in the low 30's and against worst competition than Ellingson faced.

You don't, but I would guess it's got more to do with losing Marble and apparently having little confidence in Clemmons. Which means that without Dickerson, we would have one guy that Fran seems comfortable with running the point. That's not good.
