Gesell's Intentional Foul

Awful call, put the game out of reach. I didn't think the refs were that bad until this call.

Whether you call it intentional or the new version I have a hard time seeing a hard swipe across both arms on a fast break as intentional.

Well, obviously, just more proof of his intention to transfer. He hates the team, hates Fran, wanted to ensure an early exit from the NCAA to give him more time to pack. Is ready to get on the bus to Stanford.

They were awful all games letting the 300 pound pigs drive their shoulders all game. This just showed them as being in consistent. If one of the tennpigs had done this there would not have even had been a personal foul.

What bothers me is the fact that its a 3 vs. 1 and all he was trying to do was foul hard enough to prevent a shot from going in. he wasn't trying to hurt him and wasn't going for his head or any attempt to harm or take the player to the ground. By rule definitely a foul, but what happened to the days when you could make that hard foul and actually make the player earn his points. I miss the old days before the flagrant 1 & 2 crap. And lets be honest theres really no difference on that play vs. anyone trying to foul late in a game to stop the clock. Only difference is in this case the player was shooting.

Oh how quickly you all forget about the Flagarant 1 in the first half for a flailing arm brushing Woodbury's face.........

You're joking right? That was an obvious call. Made no play on the ball. Clearly just attempted to grab him. That's an intentional foul. Gesell has terrible bball IQ.

Bad call but iowa still would have been down 7 with 1:38 to go even without them getting the ball back. Probably didn't make a whole lot of difference.

I thought it was an awful call. Yes it was "intentional", in the same way all fouls in a breakway situation are intentional. But in that situation, Gessell had a guy taller than him, barreling full speed right at him, and he had make to make sure he did not give up the AND 1. At his size, and with the momentum of the offensive player, the only way he was going to prevent a shot attempt, was to come down across the guys arms.

It brings me back to bigger issue, which is I think some our guys do not get the benefit of the doubt on calls, because we look physically weak. If Stokes from TN throws his body and creates conduct it is foul on Iowa, but if Gessell, Oleasani, or Uthoff makes a similar play it is a play on. Same thing with handchecking. Gessell gets arm-barred all day by more physically imposing players.

Really? How are you supposed to try to go for the ball, that the player had two hands on in his chest without reaching at the ball across his chest. Watch it again and you will also see that he held his arms after the foul in order to slow him / stop him so he wouldn't get injured. TROLL

Im a troll because I disagree with you? Lol. If he tries to slap the ball hard with one he's obviously going to get the regular foul call. Instead, he used both hands to grab the guy and made no play on the ball. They're gonna be call that intentional 10/10 times. If he does that with one hand and slaps down hard not allowing an and 1 he doesn't get called for the intentional. It was the right call.

There are no more "intentional fouls" and that was clearly a flagrant 1. We lost, but that play had nothing to do with the loss.

Honesty, at this point in the game it seemed like the refs wanted this to be over. Needed to get some sleep before boarding a plane / driving to the next game.
