was just plain bullsheet as Gaul was just blowing that guy down the field.

Sometimes these officials call something they think must be happening when it isnt.

Podolak said it was such a great block the official must have thought he was holding.

And please give a reply as to whether you thought the CJ Brown non-fumble was a fumble.

I thought the ball was definitely loose and being fumbled. Potentially cost 7 points right there (since we dont know what the hawks would have done with first down from the 3 yard line).

These two plays by themselves didnt lose the game but they sure made close to a 10-14 point swing.

I thought the no safety (grounding in the endzone) call was crap from in the stands...did the ball really go beyond the line of scrimmage when the QB was in the endzone?

It was certainly a fumble. I can't believe they didn't reverse it. There was also a penalty called on Maryland later in the game (I think it was a holding call downfield on a play MAryland made the 1st down on 3rd and 7). That really had me confused. Witvoet said repeat 3rd down which would have made it 3rd and 17 but I swear they awarded 1st down. I'm going to have to rewatch that.

When that fumble happened and we got screwed, I had a very bad feeling about the game. I really can't understand how they didn't overturn that. It's was pretty clear.

The block in the back call was correctly ruled. It is a spot foul and was way down field, so even with the penalty they had picked up the 1st down. The only thing incorrect was his announcement.

After the fumble that didn't get reversed...on the next play, the back's knee was down before he crossed the goal...but they didn't review. That was curious. That being said, when your offense looks like a high school team, it's hard to complain about a few calls that were certainly questionable.

That was so obviously a fumble that even Joey Galloway got it right.

we're not the Clowns. Our coaches completely s*** the bed. That's why we lost. Not the refs.

Leave that approach for the perennial losers in Ames.

It started after the first play when the refs reviewed the interception as if there was a problem. Blatant holding on most of Maryland's sweeps, the fumble, holding on Gaul, runner down no review, clearly grounding but no safety, Maryland coach wandering all over the field, refs controlling the clock managing timeouts for Maryland, King hit on QB reviewed? no flag, was waiting for them to boot him, new rule? Iowa killed themselves - Dusey droppseys, King's thing, Jake tossing to wrong team (no Iowa guy close), Jake with happy feet and a beat slow every play, did Carl play?, defense wearing lotion. Very strange game. Running game working lets pass. We got an onsite kick!! WTF!!! Terps looked like derps in their clown uniforms, can't even grasp playcalling...scratch where it doesn't itch....jetlag? Maryland hook up the entire Hawk team with ladies Friday night? Pooch kicking was awesome! Conference directive: Maryland 5-2 Iowa 5-2 best for maximizing conference revenue.

Very good post. It was a very strange game. Your last sentence sums this game up quite well.

Two of the Maryland touchdowns also had blocks in the back call that were missed. On the first Maryland "touchdown" of the game Desmond King was clearly blocked in the back when he was in position to make the tackle. On the long run for the first "touchdown" in the second half once again Desmond King was blocked in the back when he was in position to make the tackle. The two calls mentioned in this post were also complete garbage. If these calls had been made correctly the final score would have been vastly different, and were a major contributing factor.

Also Mark Weisman put on some big time moves and showed that is speed is greatly underestimated. He should have had at least 25 carries yesterday, that could have been enough to overcome the opposition and the refs. He was running great. It seemed like Maryland was playing more to stop the pass and the run was open a lot in the 3rd quarter. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:11721389

Won't complain about penalties. We knocked out their QB and we proceeed to have drive after drive of 3 and outs. We were beaten, own it.

Agree....and I was at 'Brey Stadium' in College Park, MD to see the whole horrifying turnaround.

Up 14-0 at the start.......can't lose, right?

Well, if you fumble a punt, fumble a Senior TE reception of 25 yards....WTF !! and then throw
pick 7, yeah you can.

Hawkeyes are still going to make some Noise in 2014

Exactly! We were handed over a quarter against their 3rd string QB. They managed to still put 14 points on the board between Diggs TD reception/run and Likely's pick 6. In between Iowa runs three 3 and outs. Next the Hawks put together a very good drive, mostly on the ground, that even had a counter play. So what do they do? They go back to the pass and give the Terps the gift pick 6.

This whole thread is laughable. If any of you morons think officiating lost Iowa the game you need to have your head examined and finish transitioning to a Clown fan. It's embarassing to even have a thread dedicated to it.

i like that . looks about right. Yes, i thought it was a fumble. Holding calls are so subjective it seems they could be called on every play. Just like the pick plays could be called almost every time they are run. Not a ND fan, but do you think florida St. gets called for a pick if the circumstances were reversed?
