is what this team is right now.
A lot of season left but I ive seen this before.

I thought coming into this season the team overall would be better without Marble but that isn't the case by a long shot. Uthoff, White and Woody are beasts out there but every single one of the guards are just playing terrible.
When Oglesby just dropped that ball out of bounds for a turnover towards the end I wanted Fran to take him out of the game then realize...for who? None of the guards are playing worth a lick at all.
With close games it comes down to coaching and execution, and the execution is based on the coaching. This team knows how to lose! Turnovers, missed free throws & losing your man for an easy layup. Unless this team is up by ten points with five minutes to go, it is a loss. Just watching this team over the two seasons is like the movie GROUNDHOG DAY.
Meh, it’s November. They erased a 15 point lead in 7 min against Syracuse in a road environment. A lot of this team’s challenges are located between the ears.
It has to be better than playing with a Lick. I remember those days.Ha you said playing worth a Lick.

Correct. Despite some bad turnovers and poor guard shooting the Hawks still hung tough.
And, Texas totally dismantled Cal. They are playing as well in the NCAA as any team right now. If the Hawks win the battle that goes on in their heads, they will be fine this year.
ive seen Simeon HS , work on the half court slow down game in early stages of mismatches to be ready for that situation at the end of games, maybe Hawks could occasionally slow it down and work on the half court patient game.[/QUOTE]
Syracuse wouldnt let Iowa run the whole game, Iowa was in half court offense most of the game.
Their problem is consistent execution making shots.
My gawd, 11 first half turnovers and half were really unforced mental errors and the shooting in that 6 minute cold spell says it all, shots barely making the rim, shots off the side of the backboard.
I think these guys are not ready to take their shots. Against a zone many of them are not in the triple threat position when they get the ball.
I thought Jok and Dickerson looked like they were lost both games. Just saying, if that's our awnser it could be a long yearIt's an over-reaction to say this team is garbage. This team looks to be average. Again.
Good shooting trumps other weaknesses.
Dickerson and Clemmons should get boatloads of playing time at PG the rest of the non-con and only those two. MG is in year 3: Fran knows what he is going to get from him.
Same with Jok at 2. I don't care what his defense is, this team needs someone to fill up the basket. His defense will come around; we won't know about his offense with his butt on the bench watching guys that can't shoot consistently under the bright lights of a game. Jok needs 25 mins a game the next few games in non-con.
I'm tired of hearing how there are such great shooters are on this team from Fran and then see them perform inconsistently from ok to bad nearly every game. His loyalty to all-conference practice players is going to end up costing him.
Time to test the new bloods for extended mins in non-con games. If it doesn't work, then the upper-classmen can have mins restored just in time to shoot poorly in conference games.
Talk about over reaction, good grief.
This team just played two top 25 teams and we hung in there with both teams. Are we going to win the NCAAs this year? Hell no but this type of bs from the fan base is exactly the reason why Mr. Davis Davis no longer was the coach at Iowa.
I'm not really sure what some of you expect. Iowa is NOT a national powerhouse in any sport other than wrasslin' nor will they ever be. It's flippin cold in Iowa during the winter and the summers aren't spent walking along white sand beaches. The women are rather rotund and quite frankly there is nothing to do outside of a 4 hour drive to Chicago or getting drunk to new heights at the downtown bars.
We are not in the middle of a recruiting hot bed outside of the occasional 4 star (and every decade or so a 5 star) player.
My point: Be happy with a team that is going to make the NCAAs 70% of the time, make the Sweet 16 a few times each decade and the Elite 8 on rare occasion. We have not been relevant, truly relevant, since the 1998-99 season. Fran has rebuilt this program from a pile of dog **** and deserves fan support regardless of a few lumps here and there. We don't have the boosters that other programs have, we don't have the history than some programs have, and we don't have the geographic recruiting base that some programs have. Just be happy.
