The return of Nicholas Baer comes at a good time with Iowa heading on road for tough game at Virginia Tech:

This doesn’t sound like a team we want to get in a track meet with, especially on the road.

Hopefully our “soft” press will actually do its job and at the very least slow VT down.

Offensively, we should pound the ball inside to Cook until they prove they can stop it.

Excited to get Baer back for defense and rebounding.

Iowa definitely going to have to 1. play better D 2. hope Va Tech is cold and if those 2 don’t happen.. Iowa offense is going to need to light up the scoreboard because Va Tech can score points in bunches.

This surprised me the most from the link: "During its four home games this season, Virginia Tech is averaging 7,223 fans."

Often outside of elite teams, matchups of style of play determine who has the edge. Teams with 4 guards/SFs that slash and effectively shoot the 3 have been tough matchups for Iowa. I suspect teams that can pound the ball inside and dominate the glass may be tough for a team like VT. Hopefully the Hawks hit the defensive boards hard, get to the FT line repeatedly, and come out on top. Baer’s return may tip the scale to the good guys.
