Game Plan for Minnesota

Game Plan is to play with as much Energy, on both sides of the ball as on Saturday, against
NW. That will work out fine, keeping Floyd in his southern location, another year

Floyd FLOYD Floyd !!!!

Energy as the last poster said, control LOS and penetrate on defense. Penetrate to bust up their blocking and make running backs dodge tacklers to not get a head of steam.

If hawks can play inside out on defense and cover the gaps they can stop the run. I think King and Mabin can play out on the islands for the most part against this QB and passing game.

Pound the rock at them and hit big play action passes.

Hawks will win this one with same effort as against jNW.

Feretnz needs to invite Jake and GD into his office.

Stand up on his desk and scream - YOU WILL NOT check down to a running back unless we are ahead by 20 points.

This could be right but sometimes dumping down to a wide open Wadley, canzeri, parker is the thing to do.

If you can get that big void of space right over the middle dump it off if need be.

Kill all the gophers!

You aren't getting it. The checkdown is one of the possibilities of any given play. Davis isn't calling, specifically, for a checkdown.

For example, let's say a pass play is called and one of the pass routes goes down the field. Let's also say the opponent's pass defense is comparable to Maryland's pass defense (a good pass defense). Jake surveys down the field for this pass route and doesn't think the receiver is open enough so he checks down for another possibility. Jake might progress all the way to a running play if he feels all the other routes are covered.

If you want to blame someone, blame Jake. I'd rather blame KF for choosing the QB.

Do you not understand sarcasm Sheldon?

Dawg, I've read some crazy thoughts on this board. Actually, some posters are serious about it all being Davis' fault. At least if he were being sarcastic, he could've put a smiley faced emoticon with the tongue sticking out in his post.

Eh, it's more fun to leave the smileys off and let people B&M about your "crazy" thoughts. Misunderstood sarcasm is what has gotten me nearly all of my thumbs down, which make me feel better than thumbs up.

Edit: ;)

Cover 2. 8-man box, all crushing to wide-side gap. OLB keep backside contain. Sell-out to overwhelm their rushing attack.

On offense, same strategy as NwU -- starting with challenging OL to play like men. Weisman 20+ carries. Minny will start with cushion after watching NwU tape. Pound Weisman behind Plewa and, early on, attempt at least 1 flea-flicker to Smith, 1 bubble-screen to Powell and 2 wheel routes to Wadley / Parker (Bullock should not be targeted for anything). After they adjust, target the crosses.

Win going away, 33 - 24.

Do what you did first 6-1/2 games, lose falling away, 31 - 21.

Cover 2 with 8 in the box is 10 guys. Add in 2 corners... Is the SS in the box and playing deep 1/2 or is more of a cover 6? Just curious what your thoughts are. Not that it isn't possible, just curious.

here's my point. COMMIT to throwing down field. I think Jake Is scared to death of throwing an INT.

Also, When you have a chance to tackle David Cobb, WRAP him up and everyone fly to the ball. Gang tackle. This guy seems to get a lot of YAC. He busts out of a lot of near-tackles. No, he doesn't have the speed of Coleman, Abdullah or Gordon, but he breaks a lot of tackles.

If we bottle this guy up at the line and force them to throw ... I like our chances.

Still, going on the road to play against a team who has had a full 2 weeks to prepare ... That is a tall order, IMHO.

Sounds like a good plan to me!

I'd tend to walk Lowdermilk up a lot and either drop back to C-2, stay in for run support or send him. Alternate with weak-side CB creeping in. It's a risk and a lot of ground to cover for guys of average athleticism but I just don't respect Minny's passing game and believe Lomax, King, Mabin can handle it.

I guess alternative would be base C-2, keep OLB's tight and turn Alston loose on Cobb but see risk of his over pursuit and poor angles, allowing Cobb to get to 2nd level with a lot of space. That would not go well for back-4.

Either way, looking to cheat against the run.

Keep "and that's another Golden Gopher first down" to a bare minimum.

Get the boys in the trenches focused and motivated and the rest should take care of itself, assuming we see play calling similar to NW. A good game for finding out if we are truly improving or NW was just that bad.

Oh yeah, watch out for the onside kick.
