Future Texas Basketball opening

If Rick Barnes were to come up short of another NCAA tourney and get fired, does anyone think Texas or maybe even another popular coaching job will go after Fran? I think this could be a legitimate threat.

I believe his wife is from Minnesota, and that is part of the reason he took the Iowa job. I believe I heard she wanted to be closer to her family.

Why leave a program that is in better shape for one that is a half peg down. Not happening.

This is one of the rare cases that I think it would be a good idea to extend a coaches contract and give him a nice raise to boot. After four years with the demonstrated upward swing the program has made, it's obvious that Coach McCaffery is the real deal and you want him to be happy staying in IC.

That being said, i don't think Fran would leave to take a job in the south, if anywhere, he would wait until an Big Time East Coast team became available, or Notre Dame.

While ruling it out would be ignorant, let's see how we end up. If we end up with a great year, I think the possible positive recruiting that could result would make it harder to take off.

Don't you know that all coaching vacancies have to be rejected by Fred Hoiberg before anyone else can be considered.
