future 149 and 184

is it just me or do the hawks seem to run out of gas in the 3rd period

It's just you. watch a tony ramos match.

Nationals are in Philly this year, Omaha was last year. Also I am kinda tired of people talking about replacing Gambrall, the kid lost 2 matches to the 1 and 2 seed, and the guy who won his weight? the most outstanding wrestler of the tournament? Gambrall dominated him in a HUGE match, and when the team race was on the line gambrall posted bonus for fifth place.

And as far as 149, You have to keep in mind, the hawks starting 149 was lost in the begining of the year. Dylan Carew will be back next year.

They'll be just fine. Back off the ledge! Do you really expect to not have any holes during our "rebuilding" year.

There are other options but as has been stated, Carew was to be our 149, you have Jake Ballweg in the room, and chance Mark may build. As much as we would like every guy to come in and be a national champ their freshman or sophomore year, a very select few guys will do that. Some take a little more time for progression, look at Luke Lofthouse for example, what Jesse Whittmer did in his final year, even Ironside only won titles his last 2 years. I am sure Grant is shooting for the top like everyone else. I do agree lay off a bit he lost to the #1 and #2 seeds, I am sure he was as upset as any of us sitting on the sidelines. Knowing our goal every year since way back to Gable is 10 national champs, but until that is even in the cards, guys reaching all-american status score points for the team and I think Grant has at very least that in him but I am sure in his mind right now is the top of the podium.

Everyone goes on about Rutt being the number 1 seed. Fact is during Senior year in HS Gambrall pasted Rutt, last year he wins 3-2 and this year he got pasted by him. Seems like Gambrall has not done as much progressing. A recruit of his ranking should be a top ten wrestler by now.

Even without knowing that much about wrestling, I know we're going to be just fine. You don't lose a senior class like we lost last year and come back just as strong the following year. Honestly, the fact that we were within a point of winning the Big Ten title in a rebuilding year says quite a bit about the program.

Ok guys first off I will start with Gambrall. A lot of us(myself included) have been hard on Gambrall and not everybody is like Mcdonough or DSJ. My biggest thing with Gambrall he looks as if he doesn't care but I know he does. I honestly think his biggest problem is he seems a bit undersized. Rutt and Steinhaus look twice as big as Grant. Its real easy to ask for Evans who might pass him some day but honestly he would be bit undersized right now as well. While I am a huge Evans fan from what I have seen but its a little easier to win a open tourny here or there than the grind of a whole season. Here's hoping Grant can get it done in a couple weeks!!!

You think he should be a top 10 wrestler but you're disappointed because he's 11th?

As for 149 two words...... DYLAN CAREW!!! If healthy he wins the Big Ten tourny!!!! There's a chance that we could see Dylan, Jake B. and possibly Kelly all battling for this spot next year. A healthy Carew would challenge for a high AA this year. I saw him at the Big Ten tourny and asked him how he was doing and his answer was I wish I was out there kicking some ***. He's the real deal guys!!!!

Best guess for line up next year?

125 Can McD stay here?
133 Ramos
141 Marion
149 Carew
157 ?????
165 DSJ
174 Lofthouse
184 GG
197 ???

Dylan Carew was going to try to wrestle on 1 bad knee but then hurt the other one and was decided to get both surgically repaired now. As far as next year I see either Mike Kelly or Nick Moore at 157 if they want to wrestle if St. John goes up. 197 will be the new transfer Byers from George Mason. Even being a supporter of Grant, if Evans were to "live" with Chris Doyle over the summer and possibly build to 184 I would say he would challenge Grant, considering no one thought that Ramos would be our starter as he started at 3rd string. First things first trying to get #4 in a row

To say no one expected Ramos in the lineup is false. I recall a conversation with one of the seniors last year, his words, 'there's no way that Ramos isn't in the lineup next year.' Ramos bought into Brands from day 1. Brands had a guy with uber talent, work ethic, and devotion. we knew he'd see the mat.
