-----That's easier high ground for Mason to walk at Iowa, where the men's basketball program scored a perfect 100 percent in the NCAA's most recent report on Graduation Success Rate (GSR). That, in real-speak, measures graduation progress for a complete class of athletes in a sport. The only player to leave Iowa City for the NBA after one season was Ricky Davis in 1998.

While Kentucky may have become an NBA farm team, what the above and article tell me is that Iowa needs to get off their butts and start recruiting some players that are actual "worthy" of leaving early....having watched most of what we've seen in the last 25 years, Iowa players BETTER get their degrees. Iowa's GSR is more out of necessity than anything else...so don't pound your chest too hard Sally.

That is the only position a College president can take. i think even the Kentucky president would (but doesnt dare) agree with Mason's perspective from an education viewpoint. The reality of College sports is that has evolved into a major endeavor outside the realm of education and the term Student Athlete does not apply to some.
Obviously for Kentucky basketball student only applies to being eligible long enough to make it to the pros. I wonder what all these 5th year transfer we now see are doing to enhance their education? Maybe they are getting masters?

maybe its time to just separate Major sports from education. If we need to continue with the ties to college lets set up a major in Sports where players that expect to leave early for the pros can learn how to manage their investments. maybe could add some courses in accessing welfare in case they dont make it. At least it would be honest
