Good article. First thing that caught my eye was that MW was from Grandview, IA, which I'd never heard of. I gogle mapped it and see that it's about 15 miles SW of Muscatine so he could've lived at home and commuted even back in the day. Populatin is now 600 and it's part of the Louisa-Muscatine school district.
My hometown is Diagonal, which is the hometown of Dick Ives, also an all american at Iowa, who is mentioned in the article as being a teammate of MW. Those little towns, you just never know who they are going to produce. Diagonal, BTW, still has its own school district, officially the smallest school district in the state of Iowa.
MW came up just short of the 1000 point scoring club, he had the scoring average plus he played four years but they just didn't play enough games back then to score enough points. Assuming JW comes back next year he'll easily make the club.
