Fresno St. and Neveda invited to MWC

schadjoe The MWC comes out guns blazing on the WAC inviting both Fresno and Nevada

I really don't understand these invites, as far as adding these schools doesn't help their bid for BCS status. I'd think you'd go with Houston and UTEP or SMU. I guess it makes sense as far as there conference footprint. But now the conference has 12 schools(minus Utah and BYU), this really makes the MWC a very less attractive situation for the Clones to parachute to if the big 12 breaksup. And since Utah is in pac 10 and there is only 4 spots left there, Oky state joins the forgotten 5. okyst/baylor/isu/ku/ksu/miss, If all hell breaks loose and the MWC only has 4 spots left, does ISU even make the cut?

Fresno and Nevada are the only real addition options, unless FCS powerhouse Montana comes up. Houston is holding out for more, especially with the expensive upgrades they added this year. UTEP and SMU are jokes. Nevada and Fresno have great athletic and academic programs and are much closer. WHile not always consistent, they usually finish in the top portion of the WAC and would be major losses for the WAC, especially with no real replacement options unless the WAC wants to expand beyond the MIssissippi further, endaguring already stretched athletic programs within its jurisdiction. +1 to the MWC because they might not win the conference but they bring in solid traditions and quality programs

Yeah I think your right, I think this all really boils down to MWC putting a death blow to the WAC.

4:34 p.m. — Boise State might decide which league stays and which one doesn't. The Mountain West Conference has invited Nevada and Fresno State. There are rumors that the WAC is interested in San Diego State and UNLV.

I imagine all four are on the phone with Boise State to find out where the Broncos want to play. If it's the WAC, then Nevada and Fresno State stay put and SDSU and UNLV come aboard. If it's the MWC, then Nevada and Fresno State go with them.

Whew. Things are happening fast and furious.

Brian,
Do you think Boise is PAC 10 worthy?

I thought Boise St. already said they're switching? Now people are trying to get them to change their minds?

What a mess.

Boise committed to leave the WAC. All this is going to do is switch two teams back and forth until the music stops. Someone is going to be left without a chair, and it isn't going to be Boise. My prediction is BYU if they keep pushing this ND treatment whinning. The BCS is not going to give a nationally insignificant school they keys to the palace so to speak. That would open the door for more gripes from every other school, which is a headache, but then add financial powerhouses like Texas or USC whinning about wanting independence if they can be guaranteed a BCS bowl by ending in the top 8 and you have the demise of the NCAA as we know it. No, the WAC will keep trying to sway a few MWC teams to keep the status quo, and the MWC will keep scaring BYU into submission by stealing their dream conference's top tier teams. In the end, BYU will stay (probably by that point the only other in-state rival - Utah State - will already be in the MWC) and the WAC will have manuevered itself into near extinction as the replacements list is rather small and the quality far below what they are trying to replace with Fresno and Nevada.

What is funny is that the MWC has already lost Utah and now they will/may lose BYU, the nationally top top two teams in BB in that conference.

I wonder what wonderboy is thinking right now? The conference suddenly became very watered down and insignificant in BB. There is still UNLV as a nationally known team. The conference has just gone back to a two team NCAA tournament invite, which always infuriated Alford. So that means a team has to either win the conference or the tournament to get into the NCAA. Unless wonderboy can keep up the winning, he has to hope a big conference school comes along to hire him or he may end up a lobo for life...but to listen to him...that's what he wants anyway. ;0)
