Freshman playing

With Campbell getting good time yesterday and Waggoner getting his first sack, it got me thinking about all the freshman (including redshirt freshman) we have in the two deeps and getting play time.

-Goodson
-Tracy (RS)
-Ragaini (RS)
-LaPorta
-Britt
-Linderbaum (RS)
-Ince (RS)
-Waggoner (RS)
-Evans (RS)
-Shannon (RS)
-Campbell
-Doyle (RS)
-DJ Johnson (RS)
-Belton

That doesn’t include guys like Logan Lee, Jestin Jacobs, Ezra Miller, and others who I still think have bright futures.

I know the negative crowd isn’t in the mood, but I’m telling you, Iowa should have plenty of talent in the years to come with the way we’ve recruited recently.

I guess that gives me hope...

that Iowa could get better...

later this year or next year

Also note sophomores:

-Oliver Martin
-Kallenberger
-Daviyon Nixon
-Colbert (you read that right he’s a redshirt So)
-Brents
-Moss
-Merriweather
-Koerner

Major concern next year will be OL and QB. Hopefully, whoever wins the QB job will be somewhat mobile and able to scramble.

Throw Petras in there as well. I realize he hasn't played a lot, but seems to be the front-runner to be next year's starter. Having bumped last year's back-up down to 3rd string, there must be something there to have done that.

Nike, you must be making this up. KF does not play freshmen, even if they are ready. I know because I have read numerous posts on HN from many experts. I will await your apology.

Problem is, 2020 PSU, MSU, OSU.
2021 looks like our best chance of a special year again.
I'm not saying we can't do it next year, but if guys leave early for the NFL, new starting Qb, ECT, all the young guys had better get it together this fall and winter. Otherwise it could be pretty ugly next year.

Schedule looks tough but if we can’t compete with those teams than what’s the point of getting to Indy anyway?

Michigan State doesn’t look like anything special this year and they lose a ton of their defensive front 7 which is the strength of their team. We get them at Kinnick.

Ohio State is Ohio State but they lose a ton. They’ll likely lose Dobbins, three of their top WRs, two Olinemen at least, they lose their entire defensive front four plus a top reserve, two starting linebackers, and two starters in the secondary. Still a likely loss at OSU but you never know.

Bottom line is that Iowa can only control what we can control which is putting our best team on the field. I feel our recruiting efforts have improved, and with our strong player development that will make for some quality football teams in the years to come. We just need that to translate to more wins and some trips to Indy.

I agree. Was just saying we get a fairly tough crossover and like it or not some West teams are getting better. We are going to need to get it together if we want to compete in the west next year.

Oh, there is...Mansell demonstrated he could move around the pocket, run when necessary, and pick up extra yards with his legs. In KF's QB book, that results in an immediate demotion.

Yes, and Mansell looked very uncomfortable last year in pulling the trigger when he got his chances.

Just wanted to bump this one. Evans (RS Freshman) with a big game (excited for his future as a pass rushing specialist) and LaPorta showing his potential.

I'm listening to Hawk Central podcast and they're talking about Dane Belton. Say he's a baller.

There was some positive hype about him coming in, and he’s certainly lived up to it already cracking the lineup. Kind of funny we aren’t really talking much about this kid. He’s very athletic. If he ends up at safety he could be one of the most athletic safeties we’ve had with some serious range.

I’ve been waiting to hear about guys like Sebastion Castro, Dallas Craddieth, Samson Evans, Calvin Lockett, etc. We had a lot of guys come in a couple of yrs. ago that we’re being hyped up and haven’t heard much from them. Anybody heard anything about some of these guys. I’m sure there are a few more that I didn’t list. Where are they?
