Freeman commits

Saw that Freeman committed to Creighton. You think Dix will follow if offered or chase bigger money? Heard Owen was kind of a cancer on the team after the finger surgery so curiosity if Dix had issues with that.

No one should be saying things about players leaving. From all reports the players really liked Fran.

Fran didn’t leave the program of his own free will he was fired. I don’t expect players to be happy about that, after all Fran may have been in contact during their high school years if not sooner. For all we know they may told Beth that if Fran goes we are leaving also.

I cheered for all of them when they wore the Iowa uniform and I wish them all the very best regardless of where they end up.

I hope that if Ben sees potential that he would like to retain then I hope they come back. If not I wish them the very best EXCEPT if they end up playing against us. On those occasions I wish for them to have a really bad game.

Totally understand all this. The only thing in regards to Freeman is the rumors of how he was 1 foot out the door all yr. Even before he had the finger injury and shut it down. Some think he may have been tampered with too. So It's all just what you want to believe I don't know what's fact and what's not.

It's tough to believe on it's face value that he just decided to transfer once Fran got fired.. Is what it is I wouldn't have blamed him to want to go make a buck. He's a guy who's gonna peak in college with his earning potential. If anything he shoulda left last yr. I don't see him having an NBA future I just don't. So go make it while you can.

Can't be understated enough.

It's funny how people will rag on a kid for transferring to make NIL money, but when they left early to try the NBA (and eventually get cut making no money), everyone always said, "Go get you some!!! Good Luck!!! Happy for you!!!"

Take a guy like Tyler Cook. He left early for the NBA and people wished him well, but if a guy like Freeman has a chance to go make a couple million playing college ball (WAAAAY more than cook made actually playing in the league) they trash those guys.

Makes no sense. I'm not a wealthy man and don't have a trust fund set up for my son, I'd tell him to go to Creighton too.

Hunter Dickinson made at least 2-3 million dollars playing 2 years at Kansas. Coleman Hawkins made nearly 2 million at Kansas St. for 1 year. Freeman is definitely in the ballpark, in regards to those type of players. Mixed emotions on the Freeman stuff, completely understand why he shut it down. Flipside, I also understand why Payton, Thelwell and Dix would look at him sideways, given what they had to battle through just to get on the court and play.

Iowa players in the portal are doing what is permissible under the new circumstances. In a way they are no longer indentured servants to a coach or a college. Sure, it bites that making a commitment to a college and then exiting for the almighty dollar hurts my loyal following of the Iowa Hawkeyes, but as an older adult you recognize very few opportunities of the NIL magnitude come at the age of 19 through 23. The free market is on full display and to compete you must pay.

This is also not unique to Iowa. Kids from every program are entering the portal. If you are a good player you would almost be dumb not to. Leverage to get more from your current school and maybe someone is desperate and will pay a lot for you.

If I were in their place I’d do the same Freeman is probably not a strong Pro prospect
In defense if those who draw distinction between going pro to make money and taking the NIL money is pro vs amateur
The problem is college athletics is now a pay for play which At least for the big time schools make them professional. For some of us old timers just a difficult adjustment

1.8 million, we'd all leave.

I will divorce my wife this afternoon for that, just let me know if someone has it to prove me wrong.
$400 for a non-contested divorce and still living together like nothing happened would leave you and your (ex)wife $1,799,600 richer. No-brainer.

He was also getting paid when he was here. Once you're paid, criticisms are ok.

If you want big boy money you better be able to take big boy heat.

100% He coulda addressed the chatter surrounding him he just chose not to so it built up and festered. There's no way he'd admit to anything that was rumored about him even if true anyway so him speaking out about it then or now really doesn't mean anything to me at this point. Is what it is he's gone so we all move on.
