Free-throw shooting

Maybe Fran needs to perform a chicken ritual or some other form of voodoo to excise the "clunk demon" from the charity line. Made free throws help win games; missed ones lose them.

Hawks' free-throw shooting is lost in translation

Player FT-FTA Pct.
Matt Gatens 30-34 .882
Zach McCabe 25-31 .806
Jarryd Cole 25-39 .641
Bryce Cartwright 23-36 .639
Melsahn Basabe 24-41 .585
Eric May 17-30 .567
Devyn Marble 19-34 .559

May, Marble, and Cartwright are astoundingly low for their position and/or shooting ability.

Top three are what you would expect, but the 3 you mention are scary, could have a few more W's if they make more free throws.

Free throws are weird. You can practice them as much as you want and drain them but then come game time you can miss them all the time. It's frustrating because what can you do as a coach.

Routine, routine, routine. Guys need to practice the routine just as much as the free throw shooting(and I'm sure Fran and the staff is preaching this). Hopefully the break gave the team more time to get their FT routine down and get out of their slump

That's what I'm saying though. I guarantee that they are in practice shooting crap tons of free throws but it's just not translating to in game success.

They need to spend at least a half an hour of each practice devoted to free throws, and Another half an hour guarding the 3. We used to do a drill in high school where you stood close to the basketball and practiced shooting with one hand while focusing on your form. It helped. We averaged 80% as a team from the free throw line.

I have actually seen good results from players with poor freethrow shooting percentages spending some time with a hypnotist. I am not kidding. The only down side is that you cluck like a chicken after each made shot.
