Fran's demeanor and the Gary Barta effect

Fran has been pretty calm on the sidelines this season and that does not match with the Fran we have seen/known in the past 4 years. Maybe he is trying a new tactic, but I wonder how restrained he is on game day from his true coaching personality?

Or maybe he knows this is going to be one of these years and he is not going to get to worked up over it. Just an observation, but he seemed rather resigned tonight. The players certainly were and I wish they fought a whole heck of a lot harder in particular the 2nd half.

Yeah I almost posted the same thing...

Since Fran has gone to the "hoiberg" style he just hasn't been the same.

We need the raving lunatic back - this other guy isn't Fran.

I think it has more to do with his son's cancer changed him. He clearly toned it down a lot since that happened and has even spoke about how that situation makes you look at life differently.

Personally, I like the fiery Fran. He loses his edge and identity when he tries to tone it down.

This could be a reason to.

In any event, we are seeing a different Fran out there. I am not sure if that is a good thing or not. I suppose it would not matter if you are winning when it all comes down to it. But, something feels off.

yes that is part of it also.. but I don't think this new style works for him at all.

Fran's comment about giving the team the next two days off is hard to explain. Hey, Fran: I don't want to hear about "concentrating on finals". That's their problem. Your problem is actually putting something out there that looks like a D-1 team. I bet you'll pull out the "finals" excuse if you lose to UNI, too.

U of I told him to tone it down from what I've heard. Too many children and families right behind the bench to be acting the way he was apparently. Thats why players and managers have to stand behind the bench to block any profanity when he comes over to talk to the team during a TO. Pat prolly has something to do with it as well.

I don't know about Fran's demeanor but Barta is HORRIBLE! The worst AD in all of Division 1 sports! He has ran Iowa sports into the ground since the first day he set foot on campus. What I wouldn't give to get him for 5 mins in Thunder Dome. 2 men enter - Barta WON'T leave!

I prefer Fran with a calm demeanor. Yelling, kicking and screaming does not work. If he can't coach with some cool, then he definitely can't coach with anger and temper tantrums.

It's possible to be fiery and not swear every other word..
