Fran: "To beat UNI, you have to make jump shots."

In other words, that's basketball.

They'll be printing that on Fran's tombstone at Iowa. He's finished.

To beat a basketball team and make thise shots first you have to get your team good shots in the half court. Not an issue of shooting right now. Issue of offensive plays amd strategies to get those shots. Saw maybe 7-8 tonight. Lack of development is huge too.

To be fair, you have to make jump shots to beat almost anyone.

We made shots in the first half....started the second half 1 for 11. Can't beat any good teams doing that.

What are we trying to do in the half court because I cannot figure it out? Seems like we rarely space or get the ball to the guys where they are want it. Does not help that we are SOFT physically and mentally.

We have fine young men, and I am sure they do well in school and drive mopeds safely. They just have no competitive drive. Where is Ed Horton and Jess Settles.

Doesn't really matter. Our "shooters" can't make wide open shots. Woodbury, despite being tall enough to basically stand there and lay the ball in, can't make a layup let alone actually finish for an and 1.

You are correct as well. We literally do nothing well.

I was a little frustrated with Frans demeanor. Subbing guys in and out there doesn't seem to be any actual coaching up being displayed, just lets Woodbury jog past him in a dismissed look. Fran came here year one with incredible passion, now it seems to only occur on a frustrating foul. It seems to be rubbing off on the players.

Compare Northern Iowa's chemistry to Iowa's. You can't just say this is a product of winning, they huddle together as a team after an individual mistake. Iowa players stare at eachother in disgust on an errant pass. Sounds ridiculous to point out these non x and o's circumstances as reason for losing, but this really seems the biggest thing I noticed that changed since last years slump starting in February.

Your leaders attitude is important, and I believe Fran's has been in the wrong place lately. Drawing up better plays and emphasizing to the players to get the rock to mismatches is important, but you can't coach with an apathetic demeanor.

To beat UNI all you have to do is out freaking recruit UNI. What a f*cking joke Fran is and this team is. I'm so mad I could spit fire right now. It is Fran's job to evaluate basketball players, and maybe instead of recruiting Oglesby and his 32% career 3 pt % he take a Bohannon and his career 38% 3 pt %. Instead of Anthony Clemons he gets a Washpun.

Everyone talk about how he finds "diamonds" in the rough??? I mean seriously, WFT??? When your top 100 kids (Woody and Gesell) still can't avg. double figures in their JR year, and you top 125 kid in Oglesby can't hit 33% from 3 pt range, you know Fran can't evaluate sh!t.

We were trying to play pick and roll with the point guard and center for a while at the top of the key. But our point guards aren't threats to pull up or finish at the rim. We never hit the screener rolling.

We run a lot of guys baseline on action curling to the wings, but nobody was getting separation. Our screening sucked. And nobody on our team can break the set off and create their own shot.

You are being totally generous to this team. For some reason, Fran runs the freaking motion offense (that my high school team ran in the 80's).....every other team on the planet is spacing the floor and letting players shoot the 3 or drive to the basket. Someone needs to tell Franny it ain't the 80's any longer, and he needs to update his offense.

Ya Roy Williams and all the other 60 coaches that offered those 3 guys combined can't evaluate **** then either.... I agree with you about these kids not filling their potential but it's not the kids. It's the coach. The guy has no clue how to develop players from year to year.

This is excellent news. The coaches have figured out how to beat UNI post-game. I figure that Fran will learn how to beat every B1G team after watching post-game video. Soooooooooooooo, by next year we will know how to beat our opponents. Sure it might suck this year as we circle the drain. But think how cool it will be in the off-season cherishing the fantasy of next season's final 4 team. Daydreaming really is better than actual wins. I should know, I'm a fan of Hawkeye basketball AND football.

The key to the motion offense is MOTION. This team stands around too much for anything to be effective. They don't put any pressure on the defense in the half court game. Last year, that was explainable; we had a guy (Marble) who was the clear go-to and guys stood around waiting for him to take over. At least that's what it seemed like at the time. But now Marble is gone, leaving an opportunity for any player or players to step up, and we're still just standing around.
