Fran Simply Plays Too Many Guys

Tonight, NW played 6 guys. They played tough. They were accountable. They defended us.

Iowa? 10 people played. But where is the accountability?

Bottom line: Point guard - pick either Marble or Gesell. One plays 35 minutes, the other plays 5. That would have been an easy choice for me as a coach. Its Marble. Gesell can't defend and can't shoot. He's just too small.

Center: It should be Olasani or Woodbury. I pick Olasani. Give Olasani 35 minutes, Woodbury plays 5. Easy choice, but Fran can't make it.

Shooting guard: Oglesby or Jok. Easy choice. Oglesby gets the minutes. He is the more experienced player. Jok should have red-shirted.

One forward: White or McCabe. It's gotta be White. McCabe plays a few minutes to spell White, but that is it.

Other forward: Uthoff or Basabe. I would have picked Basabe. Better rebounder and defender.

Distributing minutes to 10 players won't work in this league. It is an experiment that failed.

Fran should have used a 7 (eight tops) man rotation. That has been obvious for quite some time. For what ever reason he decided to use just about every damn player he had. That's water under the bridge now. This season has been a failure on nearly all levels.

Interesting point. I thought a few games ago Fran was playing mostly 8 players for the most minutes but it is a different 3 guys off the bench who get minutes from game to game.

Maybe if Iowa had players separate themselves they wouldn't have minutes cut.

You can point to whatever you want, but Iowa plays crap defense, no matter who is on the floor.
