Fran Making a Run at 2017 4 star prospects

Fran is the man when it comes to putting effort into recruiting! It sounds like as soon as the evaluation period re-opened, Franny hit the ground running and was out watching 2016 4 star Chicago guard Charlie Moore and 2016 4 star Ohio guard Xavier Simpson. Fran also made an appearance at 2017 4 star forward Tyler Cook's game. Building a pipeline for years to come, hopefully.

Our teams have been solid with mostly 3 star recruits. Throw in a few blue chippers, and the sky is the limit. Go get em, Fran!

I love Fran's recruiting. His number 1 targets almost always turn out really good, even if they're on a different team, and the fallback guys he brings in normally out perform their rankings.

Yet he has not been able to land any 4 star guy since Woody and Gesell. He needs to prove that his hard work spending time on these guys will pay off. Never have questioned his developmental ability but his ability to close on playmakers is highly questioned.

TIHG, I really feel that the tailspin at the end of the '13-'14 season set our recruiting back, when you talk about 4 star recruits. It was like "that's Iowa" all over again and we lost momentum. Remember we were top 10 in January '14.

Last season helped our recruiting to the point where if we have another NCAA season, we could start getting some serious sniffs from some 4 stars. And, we still have 3 scholly's to give for '16, I believe. I really believe Fran is the right coach for Iowa and he appears to really want to be here, long term. And, let's not forget that we have new hoops facilities as well and they rival anyone's in the B1G.

What are Connor McCaffery and Joe Wieskamp?

Jok was a 5 star before he got hurt.

Jok, Wieskamp, and Connor are Iowa kids and/or grew up Iowa fans. He didn't have to fend off better programs for their services. Fran needs to sell the program to difference makers with no connection to Iowa. That's the challenge.

Is that what you said about Marcus Paige? Seems like Roy wanted Woody and Paige.

I'm looking forward to the day when we have Weiskamp, Connor and Patrick McCaffrey on the team together. We might have three 5 stars or possibly more.

So what? Why do you think Illinois signs so many kids from Illinois? It is much, much easier to get kids that grew up in your schools state. Iowa isn't going to recruit on a national level, like a blue blood program. That is the reason that Illinois and Michigan/Michigan St. have an easier path to success, it is easier to keep the in state kids, and they have more high end talent to pick from in state.

So Fran doesn't get credit for 4+ star guys from Iowa. Got it.
