What to anticipate in 2014? Many young adults say soccer’s World Cup | Pew Research Center

Pew Research attributes it to the fact that many of them played soccer growing up, and may still with the proliferation of adult and young adult soccer leagues. Additional factors, I would argue, are that the Men's National Team again qualified for the quadrennial world competition; many of the U.S. team's members can be seen competing for top club teams overseas; and having the games played in a country where soccer, or football, is life and produces some of the most talented and exciting players in the world.

The scenery likely won't be bad, either.

Umm. If those are three choices then that is not good for Soccer. I look forward to the WNBA finals more than the elections and Boitano olympics.

i love world cup soccer - usa got in a terrible bracket, and will be doubtful to make it to the next round.

Agreed. And while I wish all the best for the MNT, if they don't make it through the group stage it's all the better for U.S. referee Mark Geiger, who with his team of two assistant referees learned this morning they had been selected for Brazil. During the tournament, FIFA takes great lengths to not only not assign referees to matches involving their native countries, but also matches that might affect the ability of the teams from their countries to go through. So if the US doesn't make it beyond the group stage, Geiger and his team likely will continue to the knock-out rounds.

It's rare for an American referee to be selected for the FIFA World Cup and this is a huge honor for Mark and speaks well to the development of the sport in this country. Geiger worked several matches and then got the honor of being in the center for the final of the U20 FIFA World Cup in 2011. He also was selected for the 2012 Olympics and just returned from the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco.

This poll is clearly bogus. NO ONE looks forward to mid-term elections.

Wondered about that ... except there may be enough voter unrest out there that a sizeable percentage of people in the older two age groups are ready to throw da bums out. Would have been interesting to ask about the number of people looking forward to the Super Bowl, although that is a singular event and not necessarily something you follow for weeks like the three included in the poll.

I would like to see the data about the age bracket of people who are excited about the upcoming euro 2016. Soccer is gaining some sort of popularity these days.
