Former Hawkeye Sean Welsh Announces Retirement from Football

100% class act, top to bottom. Proud to be a fan of Hawkeyes like this one and I’ll be the first one to say I hope he joins up as a grad assistant and becomes an OL coach. He’s good enough to sign an NFL contract and knows the game inside and out, and he’s got the integrity to speak up about things that normally get swept under the rug to disastrous results. After listening to him talk in interviews I can’t think of a better person to get inside the minds of college players and help them develop.

Thank you, Sean. I see nothing but good things ahead no matter where you go, and it’s safe to say that everyone will be rooting for you along the way.

Very proud of Sean. I feel fortunate to have gotten to know him and his family.

What he was able to do here for four years here, on and off the field, is pretty rare.

It would be great if after a year or two figuring things out he made his way back to Iowa, maybe even coaching the line one day. He has a good head on his shoulders. I wouldn’t imagine he’d have too hard a time getting a GA here.
