The "I Have a Dream" speech makes me wonder if MLK would be proud of where we are today or if he would be complaining. The reason I ask this is... I seriously have a dream today... that no scholarship, no television channel, no job, nothing... should be based upon the color of one's skin.
I have a dream that people will not hate people today for what happened well before their time, something we all know was wrong, and something we all pay a price for today.
I would hope MLK would be proud of how we did more than just listened to his speech, but how we acted upon it. Yes, it took too long, and yes there are still haters in this world, and always will be. You just can't help them all. I just have a feeling he wouldn't be happy today either. If it isn't one thing, it's another.
That is where we get such ridiculous stats from groups focusing on the advancement of a particular race. Comments such as "We need to hire more of this color coaches because 75% of the players are this color, but only 15% of the coaches". I am certain the team is trying to win games! If they were trying to match percentages with population they wouldn't have 75% minority players... they are gathering the people that give them what they believe is the best chance at winning.
It too... is racism... when a more qualified man isn't allowed to be hired because he is a certain color.
Trust me... if there was a 7 foot tall green person who dominated the NBA... people would love him. He could be sponsored by Green Giant and on the side of vegetable cans and in commercials. Many people would be wearing his jersey. If the vast majority of green people loved peas and to float around on boats, would it be alright to say to them..."Why don't you just go float around and eat some peas?" Would that be considered racist? Would they get ****** off about it and complain about NO green coaches? Would one start GET "Green Entertainment Television"? Would be have Green Colleges with Green Scholarships? Sounds really stupid doesn't it? And I mean... Doesn't it????
We need to focus more on what MLK had to say... "all flesh see it together"
